In the latter case, they can remove gun-free zone laws because all that actually does is entice shooters to target the areas where they know nobody will have a gun.

But if schools are such a powder keg, then why did you earlier remind everyone how rare school shootings are?

They are rare. But the shootings that do occur all seem to happen in places where guns are "banned".

But they are so rare, that is it really a problem? 99.9+ percent of students and teachers will never experience a school shooting. Why are gun-free schools and workplaces suddenly an issue for you?

kids getting shot at school is a price that needs to be paid for the constitution.

Are you aware that mass shootings like this are exceedingly rare and make up less than 0.01% of all murders?

Are you also aware that greater than 90% of all mass shootings happen in gun-free zones, like schools?

Why do you care about gun-free zones if such a tiny amount of shootings happen in them though?

How about the FBI did their jobs and put more effort into apprehending the psychopaths they were warned about in advance? Or are they too busy investigating nothingburgers like the Russia conspiracy?

We all know the FBI is so tiny that the organization only investigates one thing at a time. I also like how you try to condemn reactionary extreme liberals by posting reactionary extreme images like that one. You definitely aren't throwing stones in glass houses.

Silly woman. Get some foreigners or immigrants to kill children and maybe you'll get some help in the form of a war or reactionary immigration fearmongering. The "think of the children" "family values" crowd gets suddenly silent when schools get shot up.

Uh, because it compares the first black president of the U.S. to being as socially significant as a fucking comic book movie.

Use your brain, bishop.

It calls Black Panther the Obama election of cinema. How does that mean it is equally significant? A lot of things are called the X of Y. It means they are prominent within the specified field, organization, whatever. Are you unfamiliar with that turn of phrase?

You put a resource officer in the freaking school. The reason people shoot up schools is because it's a target rich environment and there's nobody there with a gun to stop you.

Yes, clearly the problem is that we haven't accepted our new normal and learned to live around school shootings. All we can do is treat America like some third world shithole and walk around armed as we could be shot at any moment.

Because every time there's a school shooting, the first thing Rush Limbaugh says is "ohhh, look at those lefties using dead kids as a political argument."

So would we have to fire teachers that don't want to go through gun training? They'd be putting their class at risk, no? The school shooters would just target those classrooms? Or should we let children carry guns too? Ooh how about an armed guard in every room? How third-world or dystopia do we need to go to scare shooters out of action?

Yikes.

Not worth discussing this subject with.

Seriously though. What good would optional gun training do? Aren't gun-free zones a thing we blame for shootings? Wouldn't a gun free classroom just be painting a target on itself? Or are we seriously banking on M.A.D. improving society by instilling the fear of anyone potentially packing?

There might be merit to this. Look at what happened once countries started to make nuclear weapons. The cold war, for example.

No, there is no merit to this. I was making a ridiculous joke statement. "Maybe we aren't afraid enough of each other" is not the problem in America.

So why wouldnt arming teachers be a viable short term solution until we come up with a longer term one? Something besides teachers may snap because thats not a good answer given the issues we have police doing that more often than CCW carriers.

Turning a gun shooting into a stand off will more likely cause more injuries or death. Civilians are not trained to deal with an active shooter.

But good guy with a gun always saves lives

Mentally ill by what standards?

Why do we give adolescents antidepressants and other pills in such a critical stage of their brain development? Surely theres a better way?

Yet, Canada doesn't seem to have a problem with school shootings. So are guns really the problem?

Megaschools may be the root issue.

You know, you'd think that if we lived in a society where people used logic and reasoning to solve problems, the schools themselves would be the first thing we'd investigate and look for solutions. But nope...it's guns, dude. Guns. Guns guns guns! We just need to ban guns.

You see, there are literally hundreds if not thousands of students in countries like Australia, UK, and Canada that are sitting in class dreaming about how much they'd love to massacre their teachers and fellow students someday, but knowing that dream won't come true because guns are banned in their country, or because they'd have to go through the excruciating task of mailing a form in order to receive a permit so that they can buy one.

You see, if we just ban guns or regulate them, then all these kids who passionately desire to murder their classmates and teachers to the point that they make serious, detailed plans for it will have to call the whole thing off because it's too inconvenient for them to try to obtain a gun. If we can just deter this one silly little phase that most kids go through, they'll go on to live happy, normal lives as a productive and valued member of society.

I'm re-quoting this because I spent 10 minutes writing this only for it to be buried on the previous page within like 20 seconds.

But those countries don't have school attacks at anywhere near the frequency of the US, so what the fuck is your point exactly?
