You would have to pay taxes on it if given it all at once like they do, would be better if they sent you gift cards each year or something.

Since it's gift cards they would work with promotional deals as well, like buy one get one free, or 5$ specials etc...so in theory you could get more that way.

Factoring in inflation etc, it would probably only be Subway for life, even eating only a few subs a week, if you are already past retirement age. Also probably only people that desperate for food and some why to survive on $1000 a month would be willing to do this deal.

If you were retired with no income other than SSI, you could in theory split the 50k over 3 years, so 16.6k a year, minus 13k= only 2.6k taxable a year (at 10%), so only about $260 a year or $800 total.

Not a horrid deal for someone in that situation and there are a ton of people in that situation.

That being said it costs anywhere from $100-250 to change your name (depends on the state), so to change it, and then change it back it could be about $500, and only 1 person who changes their name wins. Quite likely more than 100 people will try, which means more then $50,000 will be spent changing names........you would be better off having everyone just put in the money it costs to change your name into a pool, draw one person at random and then win it all (or better yet, have 1 person win per 100 people who enter). You have a 1% chance to win 50k for just a $500 enterance fee.

Subway doesn't directly profit from the name changes, but it's publicity for a cheap (for them) amount. Most importantly you almost definately would have a better chance with a pool of money and if done right it wouldn't be taxed as well (could be considered a gift from the other people, which means no taxing as long as you have not exceeded the gift limit (250k or something like that).

Basically this doesn't make sense for anyone to do at all, unless there was a maximum of 100 people who could enter and you were determined to win BEFORE changing your name (so only the winner changes their name at all).
