and I liked the idea of an apple dragon

Applin and its evolutions are probably my favorite new Pokemon of gen 8. Such a silly but lovable design.

SV looked like it had more heart but aside from still frame cutscenes, it doesn't do anything particularly better. Can't say for actual play experience as I can only say from videos. I doubt it's so good it would change my mind, just looks like more of the same. No hard mode, no reason for strategy outside use super effective attacks, it's a series for babies

SV's open-world gameplay is a lot better compared to how linear (even by Pokemon standards) Sw/Sh were. Also, some of the gym leaders and late-game trainers are actually pretty challenging if you aren't overleveled, especially if you accidentally go out of the intended order and stumble into a higher level area than you aren't prepared for. I got my ass handed to me a few times in the story, and I've seen YouTubers who know way more about Pokemon than I do get their asses handed to them in their playthroughs too.

Like I've said, S/V's main flaws are on the technical quality side, not the gameplay. Bad graphics, bad frame rates, tons of bugs, still no voice acting in cutscenes... the stuff that can only be fixed either by having more development time or by hiring more people to work on the game, which Gamefreak seems to either be unable or unwilling to do.
