Grenade-firing ones will help a lot against large hordes of weaker enemies. RF's (except maybe those with a fire rate buffing skill active) fire too slowly to deal with large hordes, MG's will get overwhelmed as they reload, and neither of them can use night vision equipment to enhance their accuracy in night battles, so they'll likely miss a bunch of shots anyways. For weaker and more agile units, you just want to put more bullets downfield, even if they're not doing as much damage.
