Sure, a single random convo isn't going to change anybody's mind, but being repeatedly exposed to new ways of thinking (especially from people you respect and trust) CAN make you more receptive to opposing viewpoints. The main issue, if anything, is that people stay within echo chambers where their beliefs aren't being challenged, but rather are reinforced.

Not all political discourse on the internet is done in bad-faith.
From what I'm exposed to on CE. Having any nuanced or neutral viewpoint is looked down upon. Someone who sees many sides gets shunned when they are not on their side. The original intent isn't bad faith but becomes so when its clear that not being 100% their side is grounds for harassment.
