I like how this feels like a genuine prog song, with long, meandering passages and a little drum solo at the end. Im pretty sure this is one of the highest songs in the ranking that I can say this isnt really my thing about. I dont love strings like this and the song sounds like its being played through a wall and there even dips and peaks in volume that make me dizzy. But dangit, it actually sort of works for me. I think its the intensity of the composition. I feel like theres big context Im missing. But even without that, its weirdly inspirational, with a sweeping melody and bells (again with the bells) and CLAPPING I love clapping. The singer also doesnt go ham, which I appreciate. But! This ones fine. I get real Chrono Cross vibes both from the instrumentation and the composition: that woodwind sample is good, plus that synth at 1:30 is fun too. I know Ive heard that particular sound before in other games that I cant recall. Maybe I like this so much because its not happy town music at all its wistful town music. Its not any higher because the mixing irritates me by doing that thing I generally dislike where the vocals get buried behind the other instruments. Change that up and its an easy 7.
