Yeah, pretty much. It's a setup similar to Branded's Gimmick Lock, where you give your opponent a monster that locks them out of special summoning. However, it only applies while Acid Golem is face-up on the field, so it's not a lingering effect for the whole turn like with Gimmick Puppet Nightmare and therefore it's a bit easier to get rid of. Acid Golem's 3000 ATK is also more of a threat if left unchecked, but considering that one of the prominent decks that uses the Acid Golem Lock is Mikanko (once Gen/Ken come out) the higher ATK also benefits the Mikanko player too.
