Not really. In 1997, while a desire to just get rid of the Tories was certainly a big factor, Tony Blair had a strong personal appeal and many voters were enthusiastic about him. The same can't be said of Starmer.
This. the interesting stat from these English council election results is not just that the Conservatives have been slaughtered, it's also how much of that swing Labour have actually picked up. 448 losses from the Tories sounds great for Starmer, but they only picked up 173. the other 300ish are spread across the Lib Dems, Greens and Independents, it really doesn't paint much confidence in the current Labour party
