Look, if you cheat at FFXIV then just own up to it. Don't try to kid yourself into saying you're not ACTUALLY cheating.

I remember back in the day when a sudden mass ban in FFXI happened. Every endgame linkshell used bots to get world spawn claims and pretended that others didn't. But what got them was item duping in instanced events, getting triple drops of rare items instead of a single. At least some of them owned up to it, but a lot of players were really salty that their "elite" characters were the result of cheating. (look up Salvage bans)

And it did actually affect other players. Botting for claims obviously gave them an advantage over honest players. But the item duping as well. So when S-E saw the number of items vs how many times an event was done, drop rates were adjusted to be in line with what they wanted. So it ended up making items harder to get because if it was set to be 20%, it got tuned down to 10% because of too many items in the world.
