Wow. I'm so happy for these guys. Brown and Quick and Doughty and Kopitar. I won't pretend to be some long-suffering fan. I've only been following hockey since 2003 and the Kings since 2006, but I sat next to some season ticket holders back in 2006 when these guys were just coming up, and there are plenty of long-suffering Kings fans out there.

Also, this helps the loleafs sentiment keep going, which is always good. I'll be cheering for the Blues next year so long as they don't meet the Kings!

So, I have a confession to make to you guys.

In Game 1, when the Kings gave up their lead against Vancouver, I had this HUGE rant prepared, that was essentially "Why the Kings can't win."

It was all about their lack of "mental toughness." I was convinced that a few specific power teams in the west (mainly Vancouver, San Jose, and Detroit) were "in their heads" and that they simply didn't believe they could beat those teams. That they had all the talent in the world, but until they could get over their mental issues and actually believe in themselves, it wouldn't matter.

After they came back to win Game 1, I figured "Well, it would be stupid to post this now, I'll just post it when they inevitably lose this series to Vancouver."

I really, truly didn't believe they would get through Vancouver. But once they did, everything was SO wide open. There was nobody left who would intimidate them. That's not meant as a slight on the other teams they beat, just that those teams were never "in their heads" the way some other teams were. The Devils are a classy organization and Brodeur is one of my all time favorites and it kinda sucks to have to beat them in the finals, I'd much rather have seen the Kings gone over the Rangers or Flyers or some loser team.

Hopefully we can remember to keep this bumped until the NHL Draft (June 22nd-23rd) and Free Agency (July 1st). I don't imagine we'll get any news on CBA negotiations until later in the summer.

I really believed it. The way they finished the regular season losing two in a row to the Sharks when ONE win would have clinched the seven-seed and a first-round against St Louis (who they absolutely would NOT have been afraid of). I didn't think they had a prayer of getting through Vancouver.

gotta love watching everyone pass the cup around. i always turn off the tv like 5 seconds after the game is over for the other sports (unless my team wins) because who cares. the cup is the best.
