Been going 4-5 times a week and haven't lost anything yet (haven't weighed myself but its pretty obvious) , cut out pop and energy drinks, and cut down on my calories, am I not doing enough or do I just need more patience? Because it feels like I'm wasting my time but I hate being fat and single

I used to be skinny but then I started exercising and when I stopped I gained weight. So I think exercise is actually the problem.

Cutting out bad foods is good for for weight loss, but you might want to consider making further changes to your diet. One of my buddies lost an incredible amount of weight after the season by killing it with his cardio and eating healthier. More intense/dynamic workouts could help out too. If you want to lose fat AND build muscle it's going to take a while though, just keep at it.

Ill throw a disclaimer out there though, I'm currently a football player in a position where building mass is crucial, so I'm not an expert of weight loss by any means , my experience with weight loss is from when I use to cut 15-20 lbs for wrestling.

A whole month?? Keep at it guy, you should be starting to feel better but the visual changes can take longer. Keep it up until you get into the habit, preferably take a friend so you can both make sure each other go regularly.

This.

Record everything you eat. You can cut out soda, but unless you're getting under 2500ish calories per day (based on my guess of what you weigh) you're not gonna see much change.

The gym, awesome as it is, isn't going to fix you.

You don't lose weight by going to the gym. It's fucking useless for that. Diet and genetics are almost the entire thing... this video is good at explaining things.

You're probably going to be more discouraged than anything if you weigh yourself and notice you haven't lost much weight, even if you have lost a lot of fat.

For sure, but exercise burns almost no calories compared to simply existing. Intake is the most important part by a mile.

Eat fewer calories. Diet is mostly what drives weight loss, and if you're eating too much, you're just pointlessly putting effort in the gym. You're an adult male so maybe try to eat around 1500-1800 calories, most of which should be protein to avoid muscle loss.

Yes put in most of your work on cardio and sculpting your chest/abs. I wouldn't really suggest anything else but if you are lifting weights and you're trying to lose weight, you need to do high repetitions but lighter weight. This helps tone your body rather than put on more muscle (which in turn is more weight)

And like it's been said before diet is really important. Try to cut out like every form of sugar. Eat meat for protein and fruits/veggies for snacks. Don't go eating cereal and milk for breakfast. Just grab a banana or two. Don't snack on that salty popcorn chip crap. Make a small portion of chicken with some green beans.

You can do this. Keep at it and you will be encouraged when you feel and see the progress

Make small changes in your diet at first. As others have said, cutting out soda and replacing with water or low fat milk with help tremendously.

Cardio three times a week with two days of resistance training is one of the best starting regimens for weight loss.

Adding muscle mass increases the calories your body will naturally burn. So if you keep cutting enough calories while putting on muscle, you will lose fat.

you have to eat fat to absorb vitamins

sugar can be completely cut out, that stuff is just really bad for you
unless it's like a peice of chocolate and some milk
also sometimes people eat too much it should be once every 5 hours or so with maybe a tiny snack after 3 hours to hold off until dinner and then no more eating for 12 hours

if you work out your muscles, you will burn calories in your sleep

I'm saying that if you're going to the gym consistently you could be "losing weight" but not having the scale move because you're losing fat and gaining muscle at the same time. But muscles won't know because he's not weighing himself. So you're changing body comp but maintaining your actual weight. Body comp is more important than the number on the scale ultimately.

Ultimately though he's probably really not eating the right amount of calories to actually lose weight and if he only cut out soda and energy drinks he may still be drink other sneaky high calories drinks without realizing it. He really should start honestly tracking and planning his calories to make sure he's not sabotaging himself making his attempts at the gym useless. Even if he puts on a small amount of base muscle it won't bump up his TDEE enough to offset a bad diet.

What are you doing at the gym? You don't lose weight by burning calories at the gym, that's not the way your body actually works. You lose weight by forcing your body to increase your metabolism, which continually forces your body to burn more calories.

If you don't want to spend a fuckton of time cutting through a lot of bullshit designed to take advantage of desperate people and keep them fat and spending money, getting a personal trainer might help. You seem to have plenty of motivation so just schedule a few sessions and get them to setup a workout plan based on increasing your metabolic rate.

Also remember that if your previous diet was really shitty then doing a little better might not cut it. Starving yourself is a fool's game that isn't gonna help, you have to eat good food. 2000 calories a day of quality foods high in protein and nutrients is the best way, and combined with increasing your metabolic rate is gonna get you where you want to go.

Keep eating less lol. The gym will help as you lose fat and gain muscle, one day you'll look in the mirror and say GODDAYUM.

The typical progression is:

- 1 month to feel different
- 2 months for you to see a difference
- 4 months for others to see a difference

I'd say it's the opposite

I didn't notice any changes for the longest time, but a few months after I started working out, I would have people telling me I "hit puberty" or that I didn't look like I'd break in half if the wind hit me wrong.

You're definitely the last person who'll see your own growth.
