It was highly suspenseful the whole way through. Plot was unique and intriguing.

I mean sure u can find plot holes and goofs but I thought it was highly entertaining the whole way.

I'm about halfway through it. Pretty interesting so far. I stopped around the time where the bearded guy gets killed.

- supernatural threat
- core theme is majorly tied to a major sense (sight/sound)
- female lead
- people trying to live normal lives in the face of an unbearable monster threat

I can definitely see the comparisons, I just don't give two shits about criticizing movies.

-too long tbh which obviously hurts the pacing
-no real resolution for such a world-ending event
-same goes for the psychos which just seemed like a half-assed attempt at bringing antagonists into the picture
-stupid justification to get rid of characters... it's like they just wanted to get rid of machine gun kelly(along with the semi hot chick) and said "you know, why don't you just take the car and leave our movie for good?"

I didn't like it cause the monsters didn't make any sense. It's fine if your movie is a metaphor for something else, but not if it comes at the expense of the literal things happening in your movie

They're literally demons. The book the movie is based on is heavily awash in biblical stuff.

Hell, the entire ending of the movie is a metaphor for biblical shit. blind leading the sighted

I went in with low expectations and it wasn't really that bad. Only thing I'd dock it on is all the characters being very common cliches. I know a lot of people didn't like the lack of explanation for the monsters, but that works to the film's advantage. The more you explain the threat, the less scary it becomes.

So, here's some spoilers:

they're demons. There's no resolution because that's literally the new world. There is no stopping them, they're completely immortal and immune to the anything humans could try. The ending is basically showing that really all anyone can do is coexist with the demons, and the blind have an obvious advantage. It's literally a metaphor for the blind leading the sighted.

The "psychos" aren't really psycho per se. They're people that can see the creatures and not immediately want to kill themselves. Instead they become cultists of sorts. Human agents who try to help the creatures kill people by making them see the creatures. Think of them as the villagers in Resident Evil 4.

The demons also have connection to the afterlife, and show you images of your dead loved ones. They can mimick them too

They make perfect sense in the book.

so the book explains why the demons want people to look at them knowing they'll be driven to commit suicide yet all the demons seem to do their best to hide so no one can see them then pop out of the bushes the second someone opens their eyes? Or how they make you hear familiar voices to try and convince you to look at them without you ever looking at them? Or why the demons can't just break through a glass window and force your eyes open themselves? I mean they can jump all over a car and rock it or pull a bed attached to a wire but won't dare touch you if you're a 5 year old girl alone in the woods wearing a blindfold? Nothing about them made any sense to me

either way I'm talking about the movie I watched, not the book I didn't read

The creatures don't hide. They're near ubiquitous, almost everywhere. They don't exert any real force because they don't have to. Their whole purpose is to bring about the apocalypse, that's it. No need to put in much effort if you can get us to do it ourselves. You guys are trying to find much more profound, logical meaning behind them, when the reality is ultra simplistic.

uhm you're the one being profound, I'm being ultra simplistic. We see the camera panning around everywhere seeing things none of the characters see and they're always hiding around the corner or in bushes until someone opens their eyes then they know to pop out into your view

It was a terrible movie.
-The locked supermarket down the block that somehow wasn't broken into was a way too convenient source of unlimited food, and what made it even more ridiculous was the random employee that worked for the supermarket just so happened to be part of the group and have the only key into the place.

-Why were there caged birds in a grocery store?

-Why did the monsters make no effort to force people to see them but yet do stupid things like rock the car?

-Are the monsters everywhere? As soon as the other pregnant woman gets a view outside the window she immediately sees one.

-Giving birth at the exact same time

-Fucking rowing a boat blindfolded for that long? Yeah no.

-One scene pretty much wipes out the whole group save for the two MCs and the kids and yet we're to believe nothing happened to them again for five years straight?

The movie kinda fudges up the book a bit. The book explains more and stuff. The book is told in three different time periods.

Also, yes, the creatures are everywhere. Globally, everywhere, the book says they're literally all around you at all times.

It makes sense if you know biblical stuff. Satan and demons never directly hurt people, they use suggestion to get you to do it yourself, since there's some sort of biblical law shit preventing demons from directly touching humans. That keanau reeves Constantine movie even mentioned it.

It's silly biblical logic, but the bird box makes a hell of a lot more sense if you look at the movie from the perspective that in that world, the Bible and stuff is 100% real.

The monsters effectively look like two different things:
Like angels to the cultist type people, aka the "psychos".
And
Like lovecraftian horrors to everyone else.
