I can't deny that there are people out there who are that out of touch with what's important. I'm sure that's an extremely small percentage of people who are going to play though. Most people who play video games are just fine playing as a female character and care more about how the story and characters are written.

I'm 100% certain. Most of the people who have a problem with the main character won't have that problem because she's female, but because of how the writing for her is. The stereotype of guys who refuse to play a female character because she's not manly or some other stupid reason is vastly overrated. They exist, but it's not nearly as many as people think.

I actually agree. The problem is the people who aren't are really damn loud. We also give them too much attention (yes I am aware I did that in this topic, I was more attempting to find out what Ulti thinks the far left is).

I have tried to stay away from conversations about this game to avoid spoilers, and so from my viewing of a few comments the internet led me to believe that it was bad. Turns out the internet just hates women and LGBT and the game is actually great.

The pre-order is back on the table.

I tried to stay away from all conversations, like I said, but on multiple occasions I forgot and forayed into the replies of a Playstation tweet and was met with anger about all the lesbians in the game.

My perception is skewed towards the type of people who angrily reply on Twitter, which honestly does seem pretty representative of the worst the internet has to offer.

Also a whole lot of Ulti's in Twitter replies with the "SJW pandering" nonsense, which still holds true to my original comment .

I haven't read them but apparently the Polygon and Kotaku reviews dock points from the game because the issues discussed in a game that has been in development for multiple years don't exactly align with the issues that the world has experienced in the last few months, which seems both outrageous and hilarious.

If you enjoyed the original Last of Us, you might not like the sequel, writer-director Neil Druckmann says. Speaking to Wired, Druckmann said Naughty Dog has created a divisive game with The Last of Us Part II, and he expects some people to come away with a sour taste in their mouth.
"Some of [the fans of the original game] are not going to like this game, and not like where it goes, and not like what it says or the fate of characters that they love," Druckmann said. "I'd rather have people passionately hate it than just be like, 'Yeah, it was OK.'"

"If you liked the original, you might not like the sequel" and "I'd rather you passionately hate it than just mildly enjoy it" are not good mindsets to have when creating a game.

Maybe I phrased it backwards- art is inherently divisive, and anything with less generic protagonists, plots, themes, etc gets a more divided reaction from the average moviegoer. I mean, duh, of course it does

Yeah, I'm gonna wait for a review from a trusted friend to determine whether or not I play it. That goofball pre-ordered and wasn't dissuaded to cancel it. Regardless of what he says there's no way in hell I'm paying full price for a game I that's "more engaging than fun" to paraphrase its director. Once it's down to $30 in 2-3 years then maybe I'll pull that trigger.

A statement like this implies (whether true or not) that the game was borne out of an artistic vision a creative might have, one that might not resonate with everyone but that the creator wants to see through regardless. As opposed to a soulless corporate automaton who is only concerned with making sure the game is palatable enough to the tastebuds of every single person on the planet, ie Ubisoft's output for the entire generation.

I think most of that is just tempering expectations and letting people know that the tone of the game is going to be significantly different and the story isn't gonna go where people thought it would.

Honestly 'fans' often don't even know what they want anyway, if you asked TLOU fans what they wanted they'd say they want the first game 'but more'. If you want to shake things up sometimes you just gotta put something crazy out and hope it sticks. If you asked Zelda fans circa 2000 what they wanted they probably wouldn't have wanted something like Majora's Mask either, but it stuck.

Knowing the leaks, as well as the labor conditions, I'm probably still not gonna grab this for a while. As it stands, I wouldn't like the game regardless of how good it is.

Such labour conditions are not necessary even if it was worth it (its not). There is heaps of evidence that better working conditions improve productivity. It is wrong that the game was made this way.

Literally Neil Druckmann saying leading up to release "We don't like to use fun when we talk about our games." He's a fucking weirdo.

I saw a review that was so blatantly "Please don't stop giving us review copies" where the Cons of the game was "The gameplay isn't really good." And they gave it a 9/10.

If the VIDEO GAME part of the video game isn't good, why did you give it 9/10?
