Republican Oinker Candidate, 52 y/o Robert Regan who's running for a seat in the Michigan State House has blamed LIBERALS for BRAINWASHING his 23 y/o DAUGHTER with "Marxist Ideologies" after she urged people to NOT vote for her Dad which has gone viral!!

23 y/o Stephanie urged voters not to elect her dad, a self-described pro-life Constitutional Conservative as she said "If you're in Michigan and 18+ pls for the love of god do not vote for my dad for state rep. tell everyone. Do a quick fb or google search to find info about his campaign. I don't feel safe rn sharing further information regarding his beliefs, but please look him up and just read for yourself"

It has received over 180,000 likes and shared more than 37,000 times

Her father's campaign later released a long 3 page, single spaced diatribe against liberal universities who "brainwashed" his daughter for her anti-endorsement while also supporting her "right to free speech"

He's running in the 73rd District and said he felt happy Stephanie is "confident enough in our relationship to express her opposing thoughts so publicly" but then said he was the most conservative option in a 3 way Republican primary

He then told WOOD TV that his daughter's comments were a result of an "indoctrined" colege with things that are completely opposite from where they raised them.

He said "When they go off to college, quite frankly, they get involved with these Marxist/socialist universities. Did it hurt me seeing that tweet? Of course it idd. I'm the father, i'm human, you feel things like that, but one of the things i did with my children, all 4 of them said i always focus on the truth"

His 20 y/o daughter, Natalie ALSO shares the same beliefs as hers as he thought he had a solid relationship with them where they could dis him on social media and know he won't disown them

In the end, he wasn't surprised she wasn't endorsing him as they don't agree on abortion, systemic racism and white privilege but rather blamed the University of Colorado, Texas and Austin which is her alma matter for exposing them to "progressive" ideas that are America Destroying ideas

He said "They just kind of get sucked into this Marxist communist ideology and she and i just don't see eye to eye when it comes to the whole socialism, communism, Marxist philosophy"

Robert believes she's only speaking out now cause of the whole "fight against racial injustice" while not seeing that it's just a protest against white people like herself but thinks she will see it for what it really is later on in life..

Robert says ABORTION is the only one with SYSTEMIC RACISM cause they target african americans

On a scale of 1-10, Robert says he's a full 10 right wing and she's a 0 so for now they will not see eye to eye

If you were a gay person, would you support a family member who runs on a platform of making gay marriage illegal again?

So it's acceptable to withdraw support for a family member's political views if those views negatively effect you (self-serving action) but it's not acceptable to do the same for views you deem negatively effect others (acts of empathy or altruism)?

Not really. If they're actively trying to make the world worse in my eyes, why would I support them? If we have conflicting views about how to improve the world, it would be foolish of me to support them in their efforts to take an approach I disagree with. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy a family dinner with them, but I'm certainly not going to change which political views I express publicly in order to avoid stepping on their toes, and I would expect the same from them.

There's often no clear right or wrong, but even when the right choice isn't clear, political opinions do have consequences. Most differences in political opinion are the result of differences in how severe one feels those consequences are relative to the potential benefit, not an arbitrary subjective preference like which Star Wars movie is best. Dismissing that as "just a difference of opinions" that people should be able to put aside for the sake of maintaining the image of a happy family is myopic at best.
