So don't follow Smash games but I do know they are really big and very good. But it seems that I remember that when the newest Smash game came out the producer said that Cloud was the hardest return character to be in since Square Enix had some issues. And now suddenly Sephiroth is in? Did they changed their minds?

Also REALLY close to have the whole N9 in one game!

I think the issue with Square is that they didnt want Cloud in the base game. They wanted him to be DLC again.

I did some light reading on FF in SSBU, and there was an interview with Sakurai where he said that Cloud was the hardest to bring back for Ultimate. Square was into the idea of bringing him back but apparently they wanted him in as DLC. It could be that Sephiroth as DLC was just to placate Square to allow Cloud in as a base character just to hit on the "Everyone is here!" selling point.

That's not surprising, the third party companies probably get some kind of percentage of the DLC sales while for the base game it would either be a lump sum or a very tiny percentage.

I wouldn't be surprised if as a concession for Cloud in the base game Square will get a higher percentage than other companies for Sephiroth (maybe Hero too). On top of whatever they got for Cloud.

Way-too-similar polls have made me doubt of the actual authenticity of the polls themselves in the past. Especially polls like this one:

I dreamed that SmashFAQs was having a heated discussion because the main character of Age of Empires II who I saw and thought it was Toretto from Fast and Furious was added to Smash. Granted, Crono was already in and watching the argument. Azurill was also previously added to the roster.

Additionally, Leon's white shirt was caught on fire from the back while playing FIFA 21, giving him a burn.

That looks about right to me, though I'd replace the bottom four with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Demon's Souls, DOOM Eternal, and Paper Mario: The Origami King in that order. I'd also say there's big gaps between 1 and 2 and between 3 and 5 (I'm not sure on which side of the latter Tsushima falls).

I have not. It's not really a game I have much interest in. I mean it's entirely possible we get a No Man's Sky situation and CDPR manages to turn things around in the future. But, it's a long road to get there.

Also, I feel like Fall Guys and (especially) Among Us have been so relevant this year that they may even be featured in a poll or two.

There's no reason for Fall Guys not to be featured in the GotY polls, the game did come out in 2020 afterall.

As for Among Us, it comes down to SBAllen's stance. If it was me, I wouldn't, but it seems other people feel differently. However, he could get around it by including it only in the Switch GotY poll (he's used this loophole for other games in the past).
