Easily Euro 2000. At least in 2014 we had 2 world class sides and a Costa Rica side just having one of those once in a lifetime tournaments.

I actually think 2010 was worse. I distinctly remember the papers labeling the group as EASY with USA listed as yanks to make it work. Sure we qualified but in second and the games against Algeria and USA were shocking. Had we not fumbled the group stage so horrendously we would have ended up with Ghana, Uruguay, Holland as the route to the final.

Instead our bungling group stage is a large proponent of why VAR exists

Yeah the 2010 and 2016 tournaments draw parallels on the regard. Both easy groups on paper and with a big incentive to winning the group only to mess it up big time.

Was pretty clear nobody liked Capello. Even now when it gets brought up by players at the time nobody ever praises him they just talk about how ridiculous it all was.

Capello was tactically very good, obviously, and had a crazy good record, but the reason Southgate is ultimately the better international manager - for England anyway - is the fact that he understands international tournament preparation, logistics, and handling our toxic media far better than Capello.

We lost that game against the Germans because Cappy left the team unchanged and thought it what worked against Slovenia would work against them.

We lost because the full-backs pushed too far up exposing a pathetically slow Upson/Terry back-line, and we looked completely unprepared for the movement of Muller etc.

Not too fussed if England drop the ball this year.
I reckon the young talent might be more ready for the World Cup.
They have tons of CL winners, EPL winners and experience in high pressure situations.
It's a deep squad talent wise and these guys aren't the ones who missed penalties or lost in dramatic fashion.
Clean slate for the lot, most are approaching their peak and guys like Kane won't exit their prime when the WC starts.
If they beat Germany but lose to Sweden though, then I'd be worried.

After 15 minutes of Wales controlling, moving Christensen to the midfield put us in control and what a goal by Dolberg! We've had many goals from outside this tournament, another great one.

After the Wales players acted like kids when England got knocked out at the last Euros i've always been against them. Hopefully Denmark stick a few more past them.

That honestly could have been a penalty to us. At least considering previous penalties this tournament.

To be fair, Denmark were against England too, but it was mostly just because we really enjoyed our Icelandic friends getting far.

We were good first ten minutes and then just completely lost it. Same as pretty much every other game so far. Need Ramsey to drop deeper and get James on the ball cause it's not working.

Not that I'm an expert in Danish football but I can't remember being this impressed with them

The second goal was Wales screwing up partly but this might genuinely the best Denmark team. The incident of the first match likely hid it a bit because we came out of the group with 3 points only, but we've played incredibly well even without who was perhaps our best player and a lot of young players have looked incredibly promising.

We'll definitely be Netherland's biggest challenge yet if this holds.

This is probably the wake up call that Denmark is the dark horse I've been saying. The WC qualification matches made it clear but who watched those. Biggest victory in the tournament other than Spain and Slovakia helping each other make it 5-0 to Spain. Watch out Netherlands!

Qualification apparently never matters. England can score 2746 goals in a qualifying campaign, not concede one, and all you'll hear is "it was only qualifying against shit teams, who cares".

Not sure they can keep this run without Eriksen to provide that creative ability against the top sides that have DMs to stifle this current squad.

But Denmark have made unlikelier runs in the past like when they won the whole thing.
At least having another potential contender is nice.
