I tried giving my retainer the full 570 gear and still could only do level 85 fieldwork and 89 hunting, so I guess it's just locked ATM.

Leves are better for crafters than gatherers once you have collectibles.

maybe, but until you hit level 83/85/87/89 you're limited in which collectables you can turn on (only the lv81 one) and i was impatient so i did a few leves.

Queued as a Tank for the first time in EW and I think "In Need" may be an understatement. I've never instant popped for MSQR before.

Back in Stormblood tanks had instant queues for damn near everything. It was only Shadowbringers and the great healer disappearance that made healer queues faster, but now with Sage being the new hotness everyone wants to level healers again.

I dunno, my Scholar queues are near instant.

Which is... interesting. I'm so used to being able to bring people back an inch from death as WHM that I still struggle if I've blown all my cooldowns and Aetherflow.

Recitation Excog can only get me so far.

Not gonna lie: the drip goes hard.

I do like the Bard gear, but I generally leave the pants, gloves, and boots undyed. Metal yellow dye on hat and jacket gives big killer bee energy.

There's been some rad glam so far, but there's basically no chance that I change the MDPS glam I put together to prepare for Endwalker. I COMPLETELY fell in love with it during the MSQ.

I wouldn't count on it.

Probably not as many as Endwalker launch but they generally have been pretty big things because people like to do the fights blind (including me).

I suppose that the story of the raid being MUCH more plot relevant is going to be a large factor of people not wanting to be spoiled as well.

Does anybody know why character footsteps in cutscenes are so squishy

it's the most distracting thing in the world but I don't see posts about it online so either this might be rare or somehow everybody else loves that sound

I honestly have no idea what you are talking about.

Any time a character starts walking around in a voice acted custcenes, I hear their footsteps. And it always sounds like they have soaked shoes making squishy noises

I just don't have any clue what you're talking about and can't say I've ever noticed or thought about it.

Me in the back of my mind for the last week: I really want to try out the new Summoner, but I should be leveling a Healer after Paladin so I can knock out the last role quests.

Me after thinking about it for 15 seconds:

i've never noticed, but i can't tell if that's because we have different sound settings, or just because it doesn't bother me

if you point out a specific cutscene it's in we could watch it from the inn and confirm if we notice it

Dang, even the level 560 crafted gear has slid in price a lot on the market board.

I just found out that the first set of scrip gear for each expansion is not shared between classes, which seems like total bullshit. I was gonna temporarily get that until materia prices fell.

and how many classes do you play competitively? i find my brain can't really optimize more than 2 classes at once

yep, the cutscenes have very loud walking noises- as if everyone is wearing very tight leather. thankfully, my brain doesn't mind it

Caster gear and RDM only. I was talking about crafting/gathering gear though which was totally shared since I got to max level (patch 5.2 I think)

oh that sounds crazy frustrating. yeah, i thought crafters just used control/craftsmanship/other generic stats and could share gear, while gatherers used perception and that other one

pretty annoying

They share them if you craft them!

Yeah thats what I normally do, but materia is absurdly expensive right now and you need to overmeld crafted gear for it to be better.

Scrip gear is a trap anyways since even doing minimal melds for breakpoints and CP/GP usually provides a lot of utility

It ain't that expensive over on Midgarsommr if you wanna pop over for a word visit.

The most expensive Level X Materia of ANY type is 45k a pop, combat or otherwise.

45k is a lot when you're trying to overmeld!

I was overmelding some Perception earlier using level VIII materia. At 17%, I lost 3 on the first attempt, and on the next piece of gear I lost....17.

Yeah overmelding is likely hundreds of materia (and luck based). I think it cost me like 10 mil to overmeld the 490 gear in 5.4 (and I skipped MH/OHs except for GSM since that was the class I was using for Ishgard rankings). The fifth slot is 5% for grade VIIs (not sure if IXs are different)

Honestly, the scrip gear is "good enough" unless you're really crazy about optimizing.

You don't have to go for crazy overmelding though, cheap melds are often good enough!

Scrip gear is also "good enough" but I really think the extra CP/GP from crafted gear makes an enormous difference all by itself. That might not totally be the case with this tier but it's always been true for me in the past.

I actually need to reoptimize because I put a lot into GP, and there's really no situation where there's a difference between 800 and 900 GP.

My Crafters are set for sure, though.

Outside of "just buy it," what is the method for gearing up crafters/gatherers meant to be? My understanding before was that you used scrip gear to get in position to actually craft the endgame stuff. If the alternative is slowly crafting multiple sets through the 80-90 range then scrips still sound better even if they're split among all the classes to me.

I was able to quite comfortably make the endgame crafted set with my Level 80 bis.

After reaching 90, I was able to craft all the level 90 Gear in HQ with the level 80 scrip gear and some Blood Bouillabaisse.

Edit; what he said but without spending 4 minutes trying to spell bouillabaisse and still getting it wrong like I did.

Except for LTW, which is low 50s, all my crafters are mid-teens to low 20s, so you're way ahead of me on that front. Figure I'll spend some time working on them today ahead of the raid story release tomorrow.

Got weaver 80-90 literally just spamming the leves that ask just for cloth. Dark hempen for 80-84. Snow Linen for 84-90. 0 gil spent. Super easy and doesn't need mats from other jobs like Collectables.
