This is due to only 4 viewings of the matrix each day at my local theater, and the earliest day to watch is next Wed. Meanwhile there are a TON of viewings of spiderman and all the seats are still available. Having a reserved (early bird) seat of the matrix costs $8 and then I can easily get a free seat in Spiderman so I'm only paying $4 a movie. With that said, the Spider-Man films were never really my favorites (not that I hated them).
