They're overly difficult and annoying.

I tried some of the snes ones
It's not that I thought they were bad just the movement is so wooden that it seemed really boring to me
Like I was playing an 80s platformer and it killed any fun

They're not even hard, though. It's like 90% pattern recognition, 10% decision-making under pressure.

I prefer Mega man X games, Legends, and the NT Warrior games over the original series.

-Use metal blade as primary weapon in every stage after.

That terrible weapon you never use, is the only one that can actually damage Dr. Wily (or Sigma or whatever).

I don't really like the original series that much, but I love Zero, X, Battle Network, and Star Force.

Also the easiest bosses usually have the best weapons

In MM1, I just do Elecman first, then again, to get the magnet beam to bypass most of the Gutsman platforms, cheat the disappearing-blocks segments, and abuse the hell out of the pause-trick on everything else.

Local man hopelessly overwhelmed by having to walk, jump and press the fire button.

The only tough part I had in a mega man game was the disappearing block parts (which most are beatable by rush) and in MM8 the part in the Wily stage where you are on that surf board or snowboard rail thing and you are moving along. All the games are tons of fun tho

I've been playing MegaMan games for 30 years. I've even helped playtest a fangame (and likely more to come). It's my favorite series.

If you find them difficult, practice makes perfect.

I just wish the enemy respawn rate was toned down. They shouldn't respawn if I move 2 pixels backwards. Other than that, they are fine.

MM2's "order" is dead easy. Metal Man wrecks everything, including Metal Man.

So far the only ones I've really disliked were Megaman 9 and Megaman X2.

I've only beaten a couple of the spin offs (Legends, Command Mission) and have been meaning to playthrough several of the main Mega Man game. Is the trick to pretty much all the original games just optimal stage order? Does that apply to stuff like the X series? Also, are the modern releases of these just ROMs being sold?

One day, I will attempt an uncharged buster only run (aside from when I have no choice) of all NES games. I'm not even going to attempt a no miss run.

MM2 was the first game I ever beat as a kid. They are hard at first, but you get better with a few plays through a level. Its so satisfying when you reach a boss for the first time on a level you were struggling with.

The only 8-bit game I breezed through first time was 6, after I had played the others a lot. Then 9 came out and it seemed impossible. But sure enough, its beatable with practice just like the others.

They're objectively not easy, unless you've replayed it dozens of times, mastered the controls, know exactly where to find what and which weapons are more effective against a boss than others.

Compared to other games in general, Megaman games have a much steeper difficulty curve.
I think the Megaman franchise stands out more in this regard because it's been around since the 80s, when it was a little more common for games to be difficult, and usually the only way to get around it was to keep trying again until you 'git gud'.

It's megaman, tho.
All but the first one have e-tanks and Rush to get around the hard parts, and the first one has magnet beam and the pause-trick.

Its a much beloved series with a large, dedicated fan base, and its been one of Capcom's easy moneymakers for over 30 years. A company won't keep something around for decades if it wasn't profitable. Not all the games are good, and there are levels and bosses that are just plain assholish, but your opinion does not equal fact.

I haven't played it but some guy I know got it a few years back and got sick of it pretty fast.

It's actually pretty good. The fortress is short though which was a primary complaint among most players.
