you mean hominy? Sometimes I buy it to make pozole soup. Its so starchy you really have to drain and wash it well first

never heard of it like that, go to food bank have it taken out of ssi, kinda weird both your parents are also on ssi , so they never really did work either? iirc most food banks are kinda religious or something, not sure if yours are

Yeah sorry didn't mean to sound mean , if you thought that. Esp. now though many like taxpayers or workers etc... get mad if you take out of social security if you paid nothing at all in, or hardly anything. And the SSI is like much much worse than regular disability cause it is not taken from social security but directly from taxpayers, have heard many sat how terrible it is to be on SSI cause it's so little money, not sure what you think about it though. So you personally don't work and haven't in a while?

Another thing, yeah they turned 65 but they paid like nothing in , then they probably must put them on SSI and not social security, I guess that might be rare have personally not met many that that happened to

Generally canned vegetables are terrible but corn is the exception. It's not great, obviously, but it's decent and not really any worse than frozen. So I eat it fairly regularly.

I kinda like canned green beans too. Canned spinach is horrid though how does anyone like Popeye when he's promoting that garbage?

For real. I used to think I hated spinach because my only experience with it was that gunky seaweed... then someone got me to taste some fresh spinach on a pizza and I was surprised to find out that I love it. It's not the spinach's fault that they ruin it and make it taste like ass when they can it.

it's better than nothing when the cards dealt in life isn't so supporting to hold a job to function in society. it becomes slightly easier when rent is adjusted while on SSI. (the option only available if have help from living with relatives).

just have to use all the resources available to make it possible.

I hear you. Im also disgusted by the thought of canned spinach, but fresh is great. Sometimes, at work, Chef makes a spinach salad, and it kicks ass.

Somewhat, less than we used to. Drain two cans, put them in a pot, and slice a cold stick of butter into pats. Stir them up in there, and heat it on medium heat. Salt and pepper (and optionally garlic) when you serve it.

F*** i haven't had menudo in years.

Hominy is so good. Pozole, menudo, just some simple sliced polish sausage an hominy in the pan... Just great.

Aside from that, almost all my non-fresh veggie purchases are frozen.

Also, canned spinach is fine. I grew up liking it mostly because of Popeye, but I still enjoy a pile of hot spinach with splashes of vinegar and hot sauce (Texas Pete or Louisiana) from time to time.

If I'm just going to heat it and eat it, frozen (get the steamable bags) is my go-to. If I'm making some thing with it, I typically get canned. So like soups, shepherd's (cottage) pie, etc.

Also, green bean casserole tastes better with canned green beans than fresh. Don't ask me why. It just works.

You're on SSI now, but your Dr. said you might qualify for disability ? I thought it didn't work like that and to get disability you must have paid into the system

Yeah iirc even working like MCd's full time is easily twice as much per month as ssi
