One of the few characters who I genuinely *don't* want to see win just from a popularity perspective - everyone else is either an understandable winner, or a funny winner, but Nahyuta was just kind of a disappointing character and not really my favorite representative for the franchise. So, uh, why did I rank him this high? Look, I'm just gonna say what everyone else is too cowardly to say. Nahyuta is smoking hot, and his anime femboy sex appeal is the ONLY thing keeping him this high. Nahyuta can shut the hell up but he can stand around looking hot and I am FINE WITH THAT.

I am maybe the only person on earth who carries any kind of water for Wocky but I honestly think this foxboy gremlin is kind of adorable. You could draw him all rizzed up (he's gen alpha, so that truly is the only word for it) as a gangster and maybe I am the only one who would truly enjoy the comedic appeal of this but hey it's my list, fuck you, Wocky is a hilarious sonofabitch.

Eh... I mean, it's the wrong judge, but it still works, right? I don't even know how much key art of him there is in the first place but I just really like the idea of giving the judges love in general. The only reason I can't vote for him is that there's a better Judge to vote for!

Currently replaying SoJ and I'm enjoying Nahyuta more now than I have before. Still not great, but he isn't really bothering me this time around.

Wocky still sucks though. He's lucky Bucky exists to spare him from worst defendant status.

I find Wocky really attractive.
And it's a shame there's not much art of him at all!

It occurs to me now that Klavier and Nahyuta are very similar; both prosecutors who make for somewhat disappointing rivals and characters, but they're saved by the fact that they're goddamn hot. Klavier, the bastard rock star that he is, would undeniably make for a good illustration, but the idea of him winning bores me to death, so I ain't putting him any higher than this.

Hey it's the 5-3 kids, they're on this list! Hugh is my least favorite of the three, and he only really ranked this high because I do think it'd be cool to see him illustrated as a fully-fledged defense attorney. That's an objectively great hook! I can't say no to that, so even though he's not my fave character he'd be a good winner. This is roughly where the B tier starts for me - everyone from here on out is either a great pick, or a pick that's so stupid it's funny and would make me happy if it happened.

Maya falls into the same category as Phoenix and Edgeworth, kinda - not her trilogy, someone else deserves to win more, and if the three of them won the popularity contest it would be really depressing. The reason I'm giving Maya more credit here is threefold - one, I really like her return in AA6 especially, more than Edgeworth who didn't get that much to do; Maya's return to the franchise felt triumphant in a way that's worth celebrating. Two, she's not quite as overwhelmingly popular as Phoenix and Edgeworth are, so she'd still be a little bit of an underdog. And three, I really like her new design? I'd love to see more of an older, slightly wiser Maya. She'd rank a lot higher if I didn't fundamentally believe this contest should be won by someone else.

Eagle-eyed readers of this list might have noticed that Phineas Filch escaped the bottom of this list. That's because I can't think of any character where it would be more confusing if they won. Phineas Filch is such a profoundly forgettable and terrible choice for this popularity poll that it makes him an inherently hilarious choice to me - a truly high-class shitpost, one that marks you as a true diehard fan of the series if you're in on the joke. Can you even imagine the illustrator having to draw this guy? He probably doesn't even REMEMBER designing this asshole. "Who the fuck is Phineas Filch again?" Definitely not a good winner based on MERIT, but I would be delighted if people somehow shitposted him into a win solely because of how strange it is.

I feel bad for Athena that she hasn't gotten better material to work with, that her debut game is awkwardly smashed into the middle of the trilogy here, that she has to share the limelight with Phoenix's triumphant return and Apollo being the main arc of the trilogy. At the end of the day I just have to admit that the idea of Athena winning the poll would bore me. I feel bad about it! I want to root for Athena but I'm staring at a LONG list of characters who I want to win more.

You're upset, and you're right to be upset. I'm a sicko. I'm THAT kind of sicko. I like Mike Meekins. I said it! I don't like him THAT much, but I think his role in 1-5 is a really entertaining one, and while it does feel like a bit much that he got a cameo in AA4 AND AAI1, I think those two happening back to back contributes to why Meekins feels "overused" - he never appeared again after that. In reality, both of those cameos are pretty short and ignorable, they just sting harder because of all the characters who DIDN'T appear in those games. But mostly I just think it would be extremely funny if he won this poll somehow on the back of a stupid cameo appearance in AA4. And then the illustrator would be like, okay, I have to draw Mike Meekins I guess? And then Capcom's like, wow, the fans are really clamoring for Mike Meekins, I guess we'll put him in a featured role in AA7! And then the fanbase would burn down and there's part of me that truly wants to see the ensuing rage that would occur. I think it's hilarious. Mike Meekins did nothing wrong.

On the other hand, it's 2024, which means it's an election year for Americans, and I'm just not sure how much more political humor I can take right now. Hobonix might as well be a completely unique and unrelated character, but even funnier, voting for AJ Phoenix Wright to win this poll sends a clear message: we liked you more when you were an unemployed hobo. I would vote down this option as being too boring, but here's the thing - there's a very realistic chance that Apollo could lose to Phoenix/Edgeworth/+1 (Charley?) in this poll and that would be really depressing. Since AA6, I have kind of become an Apollo > Phoenix fan, and I do really think Apollo deserves a win here in his own freaking game. If Phoenix beats Apollo I'll be annoyed.

I have really come to appreciate Ema over time - she's gone from being merely a good character to one of my faves recently. I admit I've gotten a little tired of the 'perky, goofy female sidekick' schtick and Ema, who has grown wiser and more cynical over the years, is a great antidote. I love her characterization in AA4 and I love her characterization in AA6 even more. I feel like Ema exists in the overlapping section of "characters who could plausibly win this poll" and "characters who I'd actually be stoked to see win" since she's just a little too underrated to ACTUALLY win. I definitely want to see more Ema.

I love Dhurke and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone on this. Dhurke 100% genuinely deserves to win a character popularity poll and we absolutely should get a cool illustration of him, if for nothing else other than the fact that this is probably our last chance to get any Dhurke content. Bonus points for being a very Apollo-centric character, so it just kind of feels fitting. Dhurke's one of the characters I'd seriously campaign for.

Oh come on. How simple do you guys think I am, seriously? Charley at #1? I'm too contrarian to put Charley at #1. Honestly, the funny thing about this is that this is actually a sincere pick on my part, not a shitpost. If this was a shitpost, I would have put it lower - it's too *obvious.* We all know, by the L-Block rule of joke characters, that Charley sincerely has a good chance of actually taking top 3 - he stands out in this poll like a sore thumb and he's going to receive a lot of joke votes against a very wide field of non-joke-vote candidates. The thing is, I think... that... Charley would actually be a sincerely cool pick to commemorate the game and the series? Charley is one of the only throughlines from the old games to the new games - it's the one trace Mia leaves on this trilogy, for instance (I mean, aside from her sister and cousin and the guy she mentored). An illustration of Charley sitting in the Wright Anything Agency office could be genuinely beautiful in a way that I think is a touching tribute to how far the series has come. It's like... actually a good pick. That's why it's funny.

I didn't even think about that angle for Charley, but yeah that's pretty sweet.

I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this honor than Your Honor himself. Unlike Phoenix and Edgeworth, etc, Udgey is a part of this trilogy as much as anyone else (even if he is partially sidelined for AA6), and he has quietly been one of the absolute bedrocks of the entire franchise while getting almost no love artwise. I can't vote, but if I could vote, this would be my vote. Udgey is desperately underrated and underrepresented but stands as one of the characters that makes this entire franchise work. He deserves this.
