I tossed a bit of butter in there, some garlic powder, and some salt n pepper and it's real damn good.

I haven't eaten real mashed potatoes in a long time instant ones are just way more convenient

They are for sure not as good as the real deal, but they are still good enough to get the job done

Back in, I will say the 1950's my Grandmother made them with dinner, and the thing was she wanted to see if my Grandfather would realize it.

The thing is, my Dad blew it by saying, at the dinner table, "Wow, These aren't bad for fake Potatoes."
The experiment was lost.

Basically no different than dried beans. You make them moist and they're ready to go. Nothing different about them, otherwise.

Unless you can say what those chemicals are and why they're harmful (in the dosage the product has), just saying their "chemicals" doesn't mean anything. Just because a word is big and scary, doesn't mean it's harmful.

Theyre really not. Of course you can do better with some baby reds, garlic, salt, and pepper, but for what they are theyre pretty damn good.

Must be eaten in 20 minutes or less.

Are instant mashed potatoes as good as proper ones? No.
Are proper ones enough better to justify the extra time and effort? Also no.

I forget where I saw it but I remember a post complaining about something being a chemical added just to kill us and when I looked it up it was a naturally occurring chemical in a lot of things

Not that I don't doubt there's shitty fillers and chemicals in a lot things

I don't keep sodium acid pyrophosphate and sodium bisulfite in my spice cabinet and they don't occur naturally in potatoes. Nice try at incorrectly comparing the natural makeup of a peach to the mass production of instant potatoes though.

Most of these chemicals are just acids to raise the pH, because high pH makes it more difficult for bacteria to grow. AKA makes the product last longer

Anyway, eat potatoes however you like! Theyre one of the most healthy foods on the planet. You could survive almost entirely on a diet of potatoes. I think youre just missing Vitamin C, which would land you with scurvy. So maybe a couple squirts of lemon juice in your potatoes once the apocalypse hits

Yea, instant really aren't bad. Because they're dehydrated they're just really easy to over season.

Instant Mash makes me gag uncontrollably. It tastes repugnant and nowhere close to potato. Just mushy grey slime. I convinced myself for years that I hated potatoes until someone made me try homemade mash and it was tasty and flavorful.

Mostly. I have a few cheat items though. Instant potatoes isn't one of them. Making fresh mashed potatoes is cheaper.

Think of all the chemicals you're ingesting by consuming food at all. Not as healthy as you think you are.

Must be lacking on your avocado and fish consumption if you think "chemical" is a synonym for "bad". Do you also only believe there is weather when there's a thunderstorm?

As a kid I preferred the instant potatoes because I didn't like texture and/or chunks. Since around high school I can't stand instant because I found I actually loved chunky mashed potatoes. I find instant mashed potatoes to be thin and unappetizing, with a texture similar to apple sauce.

That peach comparison was fucking ridiculous btw lol give me a break.

Instant mashed are one of those rare crappy versions of a thing that are still good in their own way. Like American Cheese Product for pauper grilled cheese.

While I more than likely had instant mash at eateries, personally, I'd rather make my own.

Look at what the preservatives actually are. Thats such a generic term. Most of them (including that instant potato ingredient list) are acids. Because they raise the pH of the food item, slowing down the growth of harmful bacteria. The rest are probably emulsifiers which is what binds the ingredients together and makes the potatoes smooth and creamy. And they are naturally derived ingredients.
