I was expecting really cool action scenes, the only good stuff was at the club. Then the rest was boring.

And the story could not have been more simple.

Rekt.

It's a fun concept. The guy single handedly takes down the entire mafia because they killed his dog. Pretty badass.

Also the badassness was nicely minimal and understated, which is a big departure for these sorts of movies. It wasn't like a Jason Statham or Dwayne Johnson movie where the film has to make all these corny scenes reminding you how much of a badass the hero is. No corny lines of dialogue from the protagonist that are trying really hard to be catch phrases. Instead John Wick's entire legend is painted in ghost stories, and he doesn't say much himself. It's cool.

Well that's fair, it did go against some tropes which was fine. Altho the final battle when they chose to fight with fists instead was cliche, I had hoped Wick would just shoot the guy.

Totally different style. John Wick fumbles around and doesn't do anything fancy. In fact half the time he's falling over or out of breath and it looks almost amateur. The only badass thing he really does is perfect 100% accuracy headshots. The style is very pragmatic.

Kingsman was over the top ridiculous. On one hand you've got a posh british man doing some kind of walking cane kung fu, and on the other hand you have a ninja assassin with prosthetic sword legs.

Not remotely comparable.
