Conditions should be improved, but I think part of improving conditions has to also include tougher border security and encouraging Asylum seekers to actually seek refuge in Mexico first and/or apply for asylum at the US embassy in Mexico or their home country to reduce the burden at the border itself.

Most of them should have just been turned away. But the ones that are being kept there need to be kept in humane conditions

It's insane that when the system is overloaded, rather than turning people away (thanks liberal courts), they are forced to take in more people than the facilities can safely hold. When they are full, they should be full and further asylum seekers should be told "sorry, wait in Mexico for more space to open. Blame the fraudulent mass of asylum seekers in front of you."

This is how I feel. I feel like anything else promotes these dangerous expeditions across Mexico, which you may know as being a bit inhospitable. These people are desperate, but we need another way for them to apply safely. I dont want anyone dragging their sick kid through the desert.

When Donnie was talking about building a wall, I thought it wasnt something that should have been a priority at the time, but I also believed everyone was misinterpreting what he meant, because theres no way he just meant a big fuckin concrete slab, right? This is undeniably true, but how long was this massive caravan on the radar before it slammed against the inadequate facilities? Thats not to say that some issues were unavoidable, but this is an utterly massive level of negligence. The second reports came in about the caravan, there should have been a coordinate relief effort to supply and construct adequate facilities, and if that was impossible, the caravan should have been deterred long before they landed in this hellhole.

Yes, they need to be improved. Sessions reconceived those facilities into their current state with the intention of using their infamously hostile conditions as a deterrent. If he understood what would motivate a family to walk from their homes to the border, he would have understood that was never going to work. It's very Trump administration, all stick, no carrot, applied in complete ignorance.

Had they done the work and taken it seriously you'd push to get judges to those facilities pronto and try and process asylum requests as quickly as you reasonably could. And then you'd try and figure out a way to solve whatever is motivating people to seek asylum in the first place.

its not like we had years to prepare an infrastructure to care for the basic human needs of these people that cross our border in this capacity. lets be reasonable.

people are still entering our country legally.
people are getting processed to enter legally.

this is all good for the country no matter what side youre on. all this attention is nice for immigration.

just what do these immigration centers do?
whats the purpose of putting people in with security perimeters and guards?

our government actually did something by talking to Mexico to alleviate mass marches to our borders like this. i believe this needs both countries to resolve this immigration issue.
