Yep. That's not to say it's impossible to store drugs in a white paste that gets dried onto the hood of a car for transportation purposes (provided it doesn't rain), but jumping straight to testing that theory without other cause for suspecting drug possession is pretty ridiculous.

There's another one I heard of out of Ontario a couple years back where a sock full of kitty litter in a guy's car (for keeping the moisture level in the car down) field tested positive for meth. Twice. Lab tests ruled it out and charges were dropped, but that still sounds terribly unpleasant.

Mostly because that's better than nothing, and a false positive isn't particularly harmful on a long-term basis.

Being a police officer needs to be a four year degree minimum followed by 3 different standardized tests you should need to pass to even qualify to apply to work as one. Too many morons on power trips in that line of work. It should at least be as regulated as teaching for a start (moreso eventually).

A college degree doesn't necessarily only give someone booksmarts. There would be courses on ethics and team building exercises with required shadowing/student-policing in areas with vastly different socioeconomic background and ethnic distributions. Comradery and visualization of life from all sides gives a more balanced look into how people should be treated.

And I feel like time has proven otherwise when you say that booksmarts don't get rid of bigotry. The more educated the populous is, in a book sense as well as in social and ethical aspects, the better off they are and the more people see hate as an activity with no positive outcome or as being worth their time. Hatred is straight up bred from ignorance.

I can also guarantee that merely having it be a 4 year required program would instantly steer away any people that are of the sort to harbor grudges on people based on the color of their skin or the size of their wallets. Idiots like to stay idiots and take the easiest path to success. People who aren't willing to change their views and adapt to their environment and those around them would not be willing to be police anymore if there were strict educational and testing requirements.

That's not really true though. Hate is a powerful motivating force and when directed intelligently, is very productive. Racial hatred is from ignorance, but there are definitely legitimate reasons to feel hate.

I dont know why you feel like it couldn't have a positive effect. It would at least deter lazy idiots from becoming cops. But if you make a 4 year degree requirement you'll have to pay them more than 40 grand a year

Yeah. We wont have many, in any, cops if they had to get a 4 year degree. Im not sure many of them want to be a cop that much...

Hot take: that's not racism. If they like some but not others, their issue isn't with the race. If their issue neuroticism around statistics, then education of the reality of how these stats present themselves should alleviate such behaviour.
