Yeah you only get two endings, but scenes throughout the game are different depending on your choices. So if you're only concerned with different endings, no, they don't matter much. But if you're OK with choices affecting not only the ending then they do matter.

I meant in the long run nothing matters. Basically like Mass Effect 3's ending.

I'd say they matter and can have some emotional impact within the short term, but in the end the most important choice doesn't really play off the rest of your choices.

This can't easily be determined without more information. For instance we may repeat everything over and over again, so each choice you make, sadly, does matter, even if it's not really a choice, because you will repeat it, and the results from that choice will also be repeated.

Even if we are not yet to that stage, choices you make might actually move us closer to such a stage in the future and therefore, they still in fact mater.

For now, there is no way to determine how much any one choice matters, if none of them matter, or if all of them matter. We must just live our lives in ignorance and hope our actions and choices at least don't make the universe worse, and/or our own existence most painful.

Couldnt that also go the other way? As in the choices dont matter since were already repeating them?

Not really. The grander the scale, the less the choices matter. Anything above the most granular level your impact on the universe is more or less zero.

The only story game I've seen where the choices affect the way the game threads out is Detroit: Become Human.

Of course, the branches rarely carry across chapters, but the ones that do are marked.

On the flip side, the only game I've seen where your choices affect the core plot is True Crime: Streets of LA, even though it's only 3 threads. EDIT: Excluding faction based games, where your plot threads from the faction choice.

They don't matter for the final outcome of the game, but they do effect many other things along the way.
