I'm on my first playthrough, and I'm on my first run. I'm planning on showing mercy to all the bosses to get the mercy ending or w/e. Does that only count for bosses? I was planning on killing all the random encounters to get all the exp.

You cant kill a single thing. Ever.

The game is also gonna force you into the neutral ending the first time you get to the final area. Beat the game there, then start heading back to the Lab, and iirc, a story sequence should start thatll put you on the path to the true ending.

There is also a little bit of backtracking you'll have to do to complete all the sidequests necessary for the True Pacifist ending, so if the next story sequence doesn't trigger after the neutral ending, you're probably missing something.

You really don't need exp. The game's balanced around pacifism, so it's not particularly hard to get by with just the level 1 amount of HP.

Oh no, I already started killing things in the tutorial section. I guess I have to start over... D:

Actually, play the game however you want. Doing Neutral and keeping some of the bosses alive and killing others gives some interesting endings.

Really Chrono Cross? I'm a HUGE CT fan and LOVED Cross. CT imo still is the better game but Cross isn't far behind to me. Wow.

People worry too much about the "is this the proper way to play or not" with undertale.
Just have fun, and play however you want to play.

Different strokes and all that. Loved CT, disliked CC, enjoyed UT.

I don't really like undertale for the story or design at all, but I do like this webpage

big game spoilers:

This.

I played it how I wanted the first time, killing/sparing whoever I wanted based on how much I liked them. I'm glad I did, because I felt like I was able to take in the story better without trying to concern myself with the proper way of doing things.

Then afterward I did the other endings, and I felt like I appreciated how it played out more that way.

this is the kind of game you should play any way you want, and ignore anybody who tells you otherwise

you want to grind for exp to make bosses easier to forgive, you do that
