The best change to the pokemon series was the physical special split.

The second best is the concept of the exp share. Problem is they seem to always have it "create" extra experience to hand out instead of just distributing it.

That's a shame. Diamond and Pearl were relatively more challenging than most other main series Pokemon games. The mandatory XP share is going to ruin that.

when sword and shield leaked. everyone also said you weren't able to turn it off, but uh, you were.

Exp. Share is fine. Mandatory Exp. Share is the issue. I know no one expects Pokemon campaigns to be challenging but playing with it off actually made XY pretty fun. When it's always on, you have to really go out of your way to not be 20+ levels ahead of everything within a few hours playtime. It used to be a simple toggle, I don't know why it couldn't just stay that way

Exp share is overwhelmingly a good idea, but it should be an option unless you're actually balancing the whole game around the assumption that parties will be levelling up evenly so you don't end up outleveling the game. Personally, I generally prefer that latter option in other RPG's (especially ones where some party members are intermittently absent and you have to specifically grind levels for them if you want them to keep up), but in a game like Pokemon where training individuals is such a focal point, I think the former option is the best way to go.

They haven't given a fuck in about 10 years. It'll sell tens of millions anyway, so why put in the effort to actually make them good?

I was level 40ish with my pokemon before the first gym due to the wild area. It was beyond unplayable.

No, kimbo. That was your fault, because you should have been playing pokemon for the great story, rather than catching the hundreds of pokemon they throw at you at the start of the game.

Sidenote: getting exp for catching pokemon AND exp.share being always on is the worst combination they could have thought of.

I wish I could still get excited about Pokemon. Haven't been happy with the games since BW2.
But even then I remember doing all sorts of crazy stuff to play the games however I wanted.

Never played anything beyond Yellow.

My kids are into Pokemon, (both really love Piplup) so I'll pick up this one. Having it be easier should be great for my kiddos.

Except Sword and Shield had the absolute worst story of any Pokemon game.

And I want to catch the new Pokemon when I start the game, I should be able to do that without getting 20 levels higher than the gym.

It probably wouldn't be as bad if you didn't get showered in EXP for camping. Seriously, imagine leveling up for playing Amie in XY or Refresh in SM/USUM.
Then you get those EXP candies by the fucking dozen for every Max Raid Battle. You can get to level 100 before finishing the last fucking gym. It's ridiculous.

Has anybody tried bringing this to their attention? Maybe a petition or something, or even just @ them on Twitter?

I'm pretty sure it was established in your thread when the games came out that in order to get to level 40 before the first gym you would have had to spend an absurd amount of time in the wild area to reach that level.

Not a legitimate complaint.

The candy is for leveling up alts or post game. Why the fuck would you use it before the first gym and then cry about it? Why are you still acting like you don't have common sense?

Yes, why would i use items given to me in this game? What am i stupid? Next game they should just give you 999 rare candy, and expect you to sit on it the entire game.

The amount of hoops you're jumping through to justify bad game design is impressive.

I'll be honest. I hated DP when they came out. Those games are SLOOOOOOOOW. Takes forever to do anything. And I never bothered with Plat which everyone says was awesome. But Diamond was such a shitty experience to play that I just never bothered.

The main games and remakes from generations 1 through 5 are all great. X and Y are okay. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are okay too, but are way worse than they should have been because they ignored everything that was in Emerald.
