$120 a year to play some old games via cloud? That is awful expensive and its probably nothing that wasnt available in the PSN store throughout time so likely no Shadow Hearts series or anything with this service

The real question is, will the pre-PS3 games have trophy support?

Also, is that 340 a combined total of PS1,2,3 and PSP games? If so that is a paltry number considering how many games were released on those platforms?

I would be very surprised. I don't remember PS1 games on the PS3 supporting them

I suppose my counterarguement to that would be there was no real need to have trophies back then because they weren't trying to entice people buy into a subscription service like they are now.

But I think you're right regardless as I'd imagine it would be difficult to implement as it's down to the developers to create the trophies iirc

Adding trophies for all those old games would be pretty amazing.

I'm not sure if I'd get Premium but Extra could be interesting. Even just one big AAA game that you'd get for free rather than buying a year would be worth the extra cost.

Do PS3 games on PS Now look/play better (load times, etc.) than they did on the PS3?

The current PS4/PS3 selection, which is what I assume will be added for this.

As far as I can tell, this doesn't mention anything at all to compete with gamepass, which is successful because it includes new games and streaming blockbuster titles at launch. If it's really just PS Plus and PS Now smashed together it's a huge failure.

I dunno, does it really? It's (atleast) twice the price and basically just combines Plus and Now. It doesn't appear to actually be offering anything new, like new games with Gamepass or DLC with NSO.

I personally don't think the NSO expansion pass is worth it, but the $20 tier is fine. There's no tier on the Playstation list I'd consider "fine" for the price, if being honest.

yeah, I definitely prefer nintendo's over this.

like I can see myself maybe dipping into the premium tier for a month to replay suikoden 1 and 2 if they're on there, but this actually is expensive, compared to what nintendo asks for

Price is really the only thing Nintendo has in its favor. Theyre pretty awful about actually offering anywhere close to their library to people though and they dont always even have new games monthly I think? Even with their most expensive offering you barely get anything

That's a big thing to have in your favor, though. I'll gladly pay $20 a year for a small amount of offerings over $100 or $120 a year for what's likely to barely be beyond their Now offerings. They'd need to do something bigger to rope me in for that much money. Not having new games is ridiculous if they're charging that much.

Im not defending the price for Sony because it IS a lot, but they are offering a lot of games too. Nothing brand new, but still some stuff that is from the last 2-3 years at least and covering almost all of their past devices. For some that might be worth it to have it all on one console I guess. Im not even entirely sure why I have Nintendo Online, but I could say that for some streaming services I rarely ever use too

Price is lolworthy especially since this isn't including new games but still somehow more appealing than whatever NSO Expansion Pass is trying to be. Maybe a few more inclusions like Mario Kart and Animal Crossing dlc and that one starts to look a bit better.

Really feels like everyone is trying to find out how they can get away with a worse Game Pass while charging more.

I think what everyone had said about Sony competing with Gamepass is that it can't. The problem here is it's an extra $40 a year here just to add games, and $20 on top of that for the actual new stuff. You can't get these without the previous tier(s), either.

On the other hand, say you can pay $5-7 to rent some full-priced games for a month. Doesn't sound so bad. Maybe it's a better short-term service.

I bet Sonys line of thinking is their console is more desirable than Xbox and theyre offering more games than Nintendo so they can charge whatever for their service. They probably dont feel a need to compete?

They definitely know what they're doing by making you have to pay the most for the classic stuff. Several of PS4/PS5 games they're advertising for the second tier are already available on the current, so I don't see anything mind blowing ever going to that within a decent amount of time.

What makes it worse is that the $120 tier costs more than PS+ and PS Now together, currently, yet it's not likely to have much more than that.

This is the foundation of Sony's biggest gaming business paradigm shift of the last couple generations. It's why you're seeing God of War, Horizon, Uncharted and very soon much more of their first party efforts on PC.
