OT not much. Nothing in the movie goes over what the conflict is about beyond one side is willing to destroy planets and others that don't like that fight back. No economics. No religion beyond Jedi (sith weren't even named), no culture. Anything there was added in interpretation in interviews and the EU.

PT more a political morality tale / badly written political thriller than something making apolitical point on anything. "Democracy = good, monarch = bad for no other reason than monarchy headed up by asshole" doesn't exactly constitue a deep politcal conversation.

It's kind of a dumb point still, but then, having gay people just to go "look how good and progressive we are" isn't exactly on political par with say, the arc in the EU Black Fleet Crisis and Leia's struggles with if the republic should get involved in a conflict of independant species jsut because one commited genocide on others to get their stolen planets back.

I've actually seen some people say they initially hated how the worldbuilding was conceived in the ST but have come around to it, seeing as it involves a resurgent fascist movement being placated by a weak, centrist government all-too-willing to offer them concessions rather than risk conflict.
