I have a bunch of moments that are game related. Playing through Persona 4 and Ace Attorney were awesome experiences and playing Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye with my friends was a blast

If you're truly free from the constrains of expectation placed upon you, by society -- then definitely some of those 100 best moments could be gaming related. However, if, as a child when you said you had massive fun playing Super Mario World and your parents say "you're not being a good drone doing that, go outside, play in the polluted river, experience the acid rain on your face, and smell the sweet smog of pollution from the nearby factories, and be back by 6:15pm for your foodbag" then you might start to forget those experiences as an adult.

Oh by the way if anyone can think of any great memories you had playing with or against other people, that is apparently not because of the video games, but because of the people so don't even think about that.

Kinda where my mind was going on this. If a person were to come to their own personal conclusion that their time spent on video games was wasteful, that's on them, but there's no need to judge the world based on your own anxieties.

This is a better way of wording it overall.

A marathon gaming session for something you're excited for or passionate about? Sure. No different than binging a season of a TV show or movie franchise marathon.

But if it's a constant thing that constantly takes up a large portion of your life then yeah probably something is missing.

playing through chrono trigger and personas 3, 4, and 5 would EASILY break my top 100 moments. One of them would probably break my top 10.

Playing Mario Kart Double Dash with my dad when I was sick as a kid is up there.

Getting a gameboy color for Christmas when I was 6 years old was my Christmas Story, Red Rider BB Gun moment.

Not sure if it counts as a "moment," but I tracked down a near mint, complete in box copy of Chrono Trigger for the SNES, and it's probably my favorite thing I own.

And for what it's worth, I'm engaged, travel a lot with my fiancee, lost 150 ibs about three years ago, go out with friends regularly, landed a decent career, keep myself happy and healthy, feel pretty good in life, and still game pretty regularly. Hardly "depressed." If anything, I was depressed when I was in high school/college.

Gaming is just a hobby. It's time to stop pretending it's any different than literally any other hobby. It's not.

For single player game I've been playing dmc 3 to help reduce my stress levels since around 2013.

It makes for a good stress ball because of how mashy the game can get. Enemies fall to the ground quickly so the pace is faster than dmc 5 and wanna say even higher pace than dmc 4 but not as complex. especially the modded version of the game with style switching and recently the inertia mod which adds another layer of play.

That said this does fall in line with whatever that twitter dude is saying. I play dmc 3 because I feel anxiety and depression. I just use it as an escape for a few hours of my day. I put on some music and mash away on dmc 3. I don't even play through the missions I just stick to bloody palace. Just a bit of relief for me.

Yeah, but a healthy dose of escapism to relax isn't "a sign of depression." It's being a human being. Everybody does it, whether it's through gaming, sports, movies, hiking, fixing cars, cooking, or any one of a million other things people do to unwind or enjoy themselves.

If anything, it's the people suggesting that you should be 100% engaged with your problems/stressors 100% of the time that have the problem. I'd imagine they're well on their way to a stress-induced heart attack by the time they're 35.

This whole conversation has its roots in capitalism.

It reminds me of when white capitalists were first observing islander culture. They would work maybe a couple hours in the morning then spend the entire rest of the day chilling out, taking naps and a little surfing. But the capitalists thought the islanders were lazy and something must be mentally wrong with them.

We know people get on fine being on the inside and we know that if youre always inside playing video games your only experience will be those kind of memorable moments for your life.

I think the real point he was trying to make was playing video games puts you inside 4 walls more often than reading will and your experiences would probably look much different if you did actually choose to go outside

which I think is pretty true >_>
