Because, as little self-confidence and comfort around people as I have, I am routinely praised as a great worker, especially in patient care.

I can't help that every so often I come across someone who mistakes my personality for rudeness. But I definitely internalize it more than I do a thousand compliments.

By using the term patient instead of customer, are we being led to assume that TC is a medical practitioner of some sort?

Because if so, then TCs bedside manner appears to be severely lacking, and I probably wouldnt want to be a patient of theirs given their bad attitude on the boards as of late.

I'm autistic. My eye contact is limited and erratic. My explanations of things can be long-winded. I sometimes awkwardly cut people off mid-sentence. I stutter. I may get a few little tics when a patient starts getting upset or accusatory.

But I'm always calm and patient and I will get anything fixed then and there that can feasibly be fixed. If I can't help someone, I will get the answers they need. I've unironically been called out by employers, co-workers, and patients as having impeccable patient care, much to my surprise.

A minority of people just aren't so impressed and find me substandard because they are rude and close-minded. And I'll spend hours, if not days, being really upset at myself over those people.

In my experience at least, the customers who tend to take issue with me are those who are already being unreasonable and demanding in the first place. I can think of four that have had issues with me at my current job; the first was trying to sign for someone else's credit card, the second was trying to jump the queue, the third was trying to buy cigarettes on a green card (our equivalent of food stamps, and using them for tobacco or alcohol is specifically prohibited under the scheme's rules), and the fourth demanded we open the lottery counter just for her when it was closed. Never had issues with a customer who wasn't doing something dodgy like that.

By paitent I assume you're doctor or nurse? If that's the case you should check your "personality" at the door and do your job. If someone is being rude to you, it's your responsiblity to be complaciant and tell them what you can do to make them feel more comfortable. It's your job. I work in pharmacy. Yeah, no thanks. Not going to quit my job so some minority of patients can deal with someone they find more acceptable. Would you tell me to do that if they were uncomfortable with me for being LGBTQ?
