Well for a few hours anyway, maybe a day if they're lucky.

What a pointless fucking battle, what a complete waste of time, money, and resources.

And before some of you go screeching "sUpPoRt cOnTeNt cReAtOrs" there are plenty of ways to support them without a sub or bits. Anyone not in the top 1% of streamers only get around $1.75 per sub anyway after the Twitch cut, fees and taxes, so fuck subbing if you don't want to.

Bless the heroes out there who keep the ad blockers updated and strong!

I really need to use them. The only form of AdBlock I use is the adblock browser for GFaqs and fandom

Twitch and YouTube ads are getting very aggressive, feels like 3 ads per 10 mins

The "adblock" crowd never converts anyway, so forcing ads on them just leads to wasted impressions and lower CPMs.
Additionally, annoying adblocking users to the point they abandon your site entirely, causes a loss of pageviews and search rank, which also lowers CPMs.

I really do wonder if anyone over there has sat down and done some real cost analysis over the situation. Because apparently they feel like driving away visits and paying an entire team dedicated to breaking ad blockers is still more profitable in the long run.

I don't have anything more substantial than anecdote.

You can't enable a culture of ad rejection, though. It would gut the amount of content out there is all of it had to be paid directly. It's arguable that the bulk of that would be shady and/or garbage anyway, but still.

The actual answer is to sell ads, instead of plopping down a handful of <script> tags and expecting it to be a magic money button. It's completely trivial to code advertising that adblockers won't block, but that would require abandoning the surveillance, and having to actually court advertisers instead of the ease of that magic money button.

Streamlink got destroyed by this new adblock so now I have to use my browser to watch twitch instead of VLC RIP.

Yeah apparently streamlink works too, so the authenticators have been taken down.

There needs to a internet button that says "I will never buy anything from ads" that forces companies to understand "Oh, ok, so showing ads to you is a waste of time and resources. We'll just show ads to everyone else. That gives our ads more effectiveness and less waste"

But we don't have that button. We just have a group of people doing the work, a bunch of people subsisting on that work, and people working against the work those people are doing, and around and around we go.

So many people would press that button that would eventually click ads to buy stuff anyway

No surprise there. Platforms dont give a shit about their content creators. Anti-adblock, and for that matter anti-piracy measures have always been about benefiting the platform only.

Which is fine. Thats their right. It just means the misguided support content creators crowd needs to shut the hell up. If that creator isnt a self-published indie, barely any of your money is going to them.

Furthermore, ads increase load times and carry a security risk. You owe it to yourself to protect yourself against them.

I don't see a solution. People saying they hate all advertising. What do you expect to happen? To be able to opt out of encountering any kind of advertising at all ever? How can you guarantee that you will never purchase a product or register interest due to advertising?

I put up with non intrusive advertising. Spam or horrible video ads that cover half the webpage is different. And it often brings new products or services to my attention.

I don't mind putting up with a few unskippable short ads on YT. But I hate multiple unskippable ads on every video.

People always complain about ads, but there have been many memorable ones.

Ads are just fundamentally incompatible with personal livestreaming. Always have been and always will be. Not being able to see or hear what is going on in a game for even a few seconds completely ruins the experience, but Twitch especially likes to interrupt climactic moments like boss fights or discussions with the streamer with sudden ads.

It happens with podcasts too. I had a story literally interrupted mid sentence from an automatic ad.
