Although I do appreciate Ed Boon's restraint not to try to push Cole Young lol.

People are just going to shit on them, so why bother? All anybody ever talks about are the guys they've been using for 20 years or better.

With MK, though, feel like many of the characters are a reboot... so they're sort of new characters-ish.

Not surprised since people bitched a storm for non-returning characters when T7 came out

She isn't a new character she is from the 3D era and was in every single one of them. Deadly alliance, deception, Armageddon and unchained (psp title).

I remember when people got HELLA pissed when Tekken introduced Fahkumram(LMAO) as the new Muay Thai fighter replacing Bruce Irvin. I also remember people hating on the Kombat kids when it was heavily implied they were gonna the new leads. People like old characters and don't want them to change.

Capcom did it right that's why Chun Li de-ages every new entry.

Also Capcom brought in six brand new characters for SF6 with more on the way.

NRS has an awful track record with new characters especially in MK11 so im glad overall

This was a thing I didn't like about Soul Calibur 6 as well. Only two new characters were added to that game, and I wasn't a fan of either of them and just went back to my old mains anyway.

I actually liked that Mortal Kombat X took such a huge chance by trying to introduce so many new cast members, and found more than a few of them fun to play as -- Cassie, Jackie, D'Vorah and Erron Black all found their way into my regular rotation. After 9 only added two "new" characters (Cyber Sub-Zero and Skarlet), I loved that X felt like it was going to take advantage of the timeline reboot and actually bring in a new cast, rather than just do like the previous game did and rely on old standards.

But then 11 only added three new characters (guests excluded). Geras and Cetrion were meh, but I really enjoyed playing as Kollector, even though he did literally nothing in the story (pretty sure you didn't even fight him until the DLC expansion). I was very let down that they never added any actual new characters with DLC.

So far, for MK1, not only are we seeing zero new characters, but I'm actually way more interested in playing as the Kameo cast than the actual playable cast. So at this point, I'm not even sure if I'll be buying the game at all.

I hope this an eye opener for some. People will be angry no matter what. No new characters? People will be mad. No returning characters? People will be mad.

Kinda rules that MK is going with "legacy" characters. I'm sure there will be 3 or 4 new characters but I like the lineup so far.

I did find it kinda weird that there were no new characters in T8 until now, and the devs even realized that. Azucena looks really awesome with her dodge-counter stance.

I thought Fahkumram had a decent amount of support. It was Josie that people were upset about replacing Bruce.

I mean I'm not hating these redesigns.

They somehow made Reptile babygirl.

Honestly, with a long-running series, I genuinely don't care about new characters if there isn't a time skip.
