This vendetta against remasters/remakes is so stupid. Every other media does the same thing. Books will have new versions with cleaner text, movies and tv shows will have 4k touch-ups, music will get modern-day remasters. It's so these pieces can be reintroduced to an audience that may otherwise pass up on them. There's nothing wrong with polishing up games so they can be enjoyed by audiences that don't want to pay over $100 bucks to play it on a 20+-year-old console that they most likely don't have.

Its really incredible the amount of Nintendo history available on Switch, including Switch online. NES through N64 are available with the online subscription, but remasters are the way that we can get Switch access to GameCube and Wii games.

Books aren't really as good of an example compared to the others because text doesn't really get outdated nearly as quickly as movies and games will. Sometimes, a book will re-release with a more modern translation, though, just so people can understand it more.

Movies and games have visuals/audio that will eventually become quickly outdated, and touching it up with HD/nowadays 4k will help make old media still keep up.

I'm OK with remasters as long as they either actually do polish up the old work to a significant enough degree, and/or are sold at less than full price. Otherwise it just falls under lazy cash grab territory for me.

Metroid Prime is a recent example of one that does these criteria right.

Shame that Nintendo turned down Night Dive Studios. They wanted to remaster Eternal Darkness (and still do) and GoldenEye.

People are actually having tons of fun with F-Zero 99. I haven't tried it yet so I can't say from personal experience.

And there's a comparison video for the TTYD remaster. It looks way different than the original. It's a case of nostalgia kinda making us think something older actually looked that good. (Not that I'm saying the original TTYD looked bad, though.)
