What is League of Legends? League of Legends is a team game very similar to the WarCraft 3 custom map DotA. There are two bases, one on either side of the map and several "lanes" between the bases along which AI controlled units spawn. And overhead view of the 5v5 map looks about like this:
There is a base in the bottom left, and a base in the top right. 3 lanes connect the two bases and every 30 seconds AI controlled "minions" spawn in each lane. Everyone who is in the game controls 1 "champion" unit and your job as a team is to push your lanes and destroy the opposing base. The lanes are protected by turrets and so you need your own minions along side you to be able to kill the turrets without getting targeted by them. 2 bases, 3 lanes, 5 players per team. What are Champions? Champions are the powerful units that you get to control. You pick 1 before the map loads and that is the champion you will use for that match. Champions start each match at level 1 their max level is 18. The important thing to consider is the stats of the champion you select will be affected by the level of your account.
What do 'account-levels' have to do with anything? When you create an account you have a level 1 account. That is called your 'Summoner Level'. You are the summoner, and the champion you select for the match is the 'summoned'. You increase your summoner level by playing matches. Every match you play will earn you XP and IP. Earning enough XP will increase your summoner level with the max level being 30. Wins are worth more XP/IP than losses, so try to win ^_^. Your summoner level also determines: (1) How many runes you can slot and (2) How many mastery points you can allot
If you are low leveled still and playing by yourself then the game will try and pair you against similarly leveled opponents, but if you are playing with higher leveled friends then it will seek higher leveled opponents. Just something to consider when you start learning how to play.
What is IP again? IP is the other kind of points you earn when you play matches. You earn both XP and IP and IP are the points that you use to purchase runes and champions. Yes, thats right, you have to "buy" the champions, but you get the points for free so its not a bad deal. (You can also spend real money on champion packs if you would rather not take the time to earn them) The point is that you get the IP for free so you should figure out which champions you are good with and spend it on those. When you buy a champion you will have it unlocked on your account forever. And if you don't buy ANY champions, you will still have access to 10 of them. Every week there are 10 "free" champions. But they are only free for the week and 10 different champions will be free the next week. And so if you are level 1 you still have 10 champions available to you and so try them out, figure out which one you might like to spend points on and then buy it.
And so IP is good for Champions and Runes. You can also spend *real money* to unlock champions but you can NOT unlock runes with real money, only IP and so runes have to be earned.
To sum up: You have an account that goes up to level 30 (this is your summoner level) You earn XP (to level up the account) and IP (to buy champions/runes) every time you play a match You have rune pages (with up to 30 slots) You have a mastery page to spec (with up to 30 points) (and you can respec as much as you want)
This is probably a bit over-kill and so if something doesnt quite make sense just ask and someone will clarify. And if you are going to start playing please post: (1) Your GameFAQs name (2) Your Summoner name (this is different than your log-in name) (3) Your preferred champions. Its just nice to know which champions people prefer to play or use the most.
And please BOLD THE INFORMATION so we will see it and update the list accordingly.

Stacking slow Massive damage Speed steroid Damage steroid AOE global ult Significant self-heal Cleanse that can go through supression Significant Team steroid Massive farming potential Able to make easy use of all GP/5 items Huge burst as well as sustained DPS
1. Gangplank is stupid in the lane now, though it probably had something to do with me being Alistar laning with a Nasus who facechecked the brush immediately and got WW'd and GP'd for his trouble.
2. If Katarina is on your team, she will be incompetent and stuffed in all attempts to kill. If she is against you, you are the only person who knows how to stop Death Lots and your team will feed her stacks of Soulstealer and SotO.
3. If you ever go into a normal game without premades, by the gods, you will either only face premades or face people with inanely good team comp compared to your hodgepodge of bullcrap.
This is supremely embarrassing and frustrating.

Now on a lighter note, I'm nearly done with my Smurf requirements for a free champion.
For those who are also looking for free stuff, here is
Biolizard's Guide to Smurfing the System
1. You should already know how to refer a friend but if not... well, look at the referral section on the site. Follow the referral link you're assigned and make a person. You need an email address for each, I'm pretty sure, but if you can remember an old one you never use, that's fine to. It only needs to be valid and you don't need to confirm anything.
2. Log in to your smurf.
3. Go directly to battle training and select Ashe as your champion. Summoner spells can be whatever, but I like ghost/revive. Ignore all secondary objectives.
4. Start with Doran's Blade and go mid. Pick Ashe's W to start. Soraka Bot also goes mid, but the bots are completely incompetent so Yi Bot can defend top by himself, maybe lose one turret. You will never be in serious danger of losing.
5. Farm as usual. If Nasus pushes out, and he does, often. Attack him. He will not move until he's about to die. If he escapes, he will try to recall directly behind his turret most of the time. W and tag him, then get out of the turret's range. Between this and minion farming, you'll have massive gold. If the turret hasn't fallen by five minutes, you're doing it wrong. All of the turrets in battle training have lower HP than normal.
6. Do what you can with the second turret and/or recall. Stack Doran's, but not before buying Berserker Greaves. Take out the turrets, still killing the foolish Nasus bot. Soraka will keep you sustained. The inhib will fall shortly. The nexus turrets are a joke and will fall in 6 or so attacks.
7. Target the nexus and stop for nobody. Do not attack minions or bots. You will attack the nexus. Constantly. You will die. Revive and make a run back to the nexus and finish what you started. You should finish in 15 minutes, 20 tops. You will have 450+ IP and be half way to level 3 from base 1.
8. From there, either go back to battle training to get not insane EXP or go to vs AI for moderate enjoyment. Repeat until level 5.

Just played my first game as Kassadin since the patch
His W is amazing
It actually does what it feels like it's supposed to do. Every time I tried to drop a full combo on someone, I was still doing some damage after I blew R/E/Q. In fact, I even out-dps's an MF for my 8th kill. It gives you that little extra umph to finish someone off before running away to let your team rescue you.
Start with Doran's Ring. If you think you will need a bit more ability to take damage, start with mana crystal get a rod of ages If not, death cap If they MR up, void staff If not, Zhonya's hourglass Get boots sometime in there. Archangels

tack a 6-0-0 on the end of that list I'll update the list around 12 games or so I guess.
Dorans Ring first.
Then it depends >_>
but uhh I get spell pen when I have to 1v2 top because its quick and good and stuff, but I've only got it once during these games.
Just look up NewFD's recent games to see them? Deathcap depends on how the cash is coming in. And sometimes you have to hourglass instead though few teams have forced me to build one so far.
So uh, move over Ashe, Gangplank's the new utility carry in town. Same ridiculous utility (in a different fashion of course), but can deal completely gross amounts of damage, which Ashe can't if she's going utility. Not even bothering with Gold/10 items these days - just rushing manamune, then IE, then some crit, then the game is won. So many teamfights can be won easily if you ult smartly.
1.I'm officially giving up on Tristana. I love her but I just can't succeed with her. Perhaps she's bad or perhaps it's me but even in my best games I'll go 11 kills with 11 deaths to match. I can't seem to kill without dying myself.
2.So I'm picking up Ashe again because she's only 450 and why the **** not. I haven't used her since I first started playing this game and Chris tried to teach me. I realized I've gotten much better since then and I outta put the lessons to good use!

Realo won gold at the Sex Olympics with a BROKEN FRIGGIN NECK.-Voltch
Go 0-4 at start, rally the team, convince the blitz who's gonna quit to stay and fight, "Adel Dijerek is legendary", go 10-0 on my fifth life, threeshot the enemy tankwick...it's good to be Winbeard. Easily the most fun I've had since Morde, except my champion is OP this time (seriously, jungleplank should not be able to come back from a 0-4 deficit)! :P
Forceful_Dragon posted... does parrrrley still apply mallet?
Yes. You don 't need mallet because you already slow though, and Gangplank has Jax syndrome (i. e. relied on ****ty bullcrap for so long all his numbers are stupidly high). Parrrrley needs a full remake, because giving Gangplank one to two extra creeps every time he kills something with it is dumb as hell - I'm finishing Manamune 6 minutes in for crying out loud!
EDIT: Basically Peaf, imagine if Gangplank had a hidden passive that read "every other creep gangplank kills counts for one to two extra creeps". So take the final creepscore, multiply it by 50%, and you've got Gangplank. He was held back by being better through denying *****es before, and by sucking horribly in lane in recent times, but the new Grog-Soaked Blade makes it impossible to beat him if he has a good lanemate because at its maximum level of stacking it slows like Ashe's Frost Shot and adds an extra autoattack a second, and it's trivially easy to get into a position to get those five stacks, thanks to Raise Morale being Mundo's Masochism and the movespeed portion of Sadism in one comfortable package. The game I talked about five posts ago? Yeah, I died to Golem TWICE, got counterjungled, had a 2-9 Teemo that robbed us of midlane, a Kayle who had to solobot, and I STILL came back to win and had something like a 4 or 5:1 KDA ratio. It's THAT dumb.
You know the "send a carry bot to get babysat" strategy? Gangplank can play that strategy normally, but if he feels like it he can force the other babysat carry out of lane all day erryday, while doubling his gold score because Parrrrley is dumb as hell. He's broken, broken, broken.
