Pokewars posted... Gengar defeats Arcanine 17 - 10 Do you want the wrath of Gen to come down upon you?
Wrath? I have no wrath anymore. Nothing really phases me ever since I watched Arcanine lose to flipping Houndoom. After that, my expectations for my favorite pokémon putting up a decent performance reached an all-time low. Lessee... this is bound to be its... what? Third loss in a row? I'm gradually losing my ability to care about this thing anymore. >_>

In all honesty, I'm always surprised at how well Arcanine actually does. The last three matches are pretty much the first time I've seen it perform the way I thought it would've performed before the contest.
Even its loss to Houndoom, it doesn't really make it look bad, it just seems like it stopped overperforming.
I disagree. Arcanine has always been a very popular pokémon, just not to the levels of Charizard and Mewtwo (and apparently Articuno on this board). It was pretty much proven to have decent amount of love by that other similar topic which I think was B8's Top 100 Pokémon. It ranked #3 after Articuno and above Mewtwo.
It was pretty much performing at exactly the level I expected and it's ranking was indicative of that: close to the top but never quite at the top.
Now it's experiencing an embarrassing drop in popularity or in supporters or both and it freaking sucks. It's now underperforming instead of performing at the level I've come to expect of it, and the poor votals as of late are more likely than not the cause of it, Mewtwo, and Charizard's recent uncharacteristic losses.
In fact the only "overrated" pokémon (as highly-ranked and well-beloved pokémon are so often called) that doesn't seem to be suffering popularity dips/downvoting is B8 favorite Articuno.

Yeah, sorry Da_J. I just kind of lost interest when the Top 25 ended up being rather... boring and obvious for the most part. I guess I just don't really care where they all end up anymore.
Yeah, and that's what I figured was largely the case now. Maybe this 4th Round was unnecessary. I'm still not sure. The format for this contest was drawn up from scratch, so if another one is held at some point in time to update the list, I'm sure countless improvements could be made. I just figured that the very top of the list is important enough to merit further voting to determine the specific order.

I'm not talking about the board specifically. Before coming to this board, all signs pointed to me that Arcanine was just slightly more popular than Ninetales, then when I came here and saw it beasting through the "Save my" and this contest I was like "...whoa?". I knew it was popular, but Charizard-Mewtwo-Articuno popular? Didn't expect that.
I wasn't aware Articuno was as popular as it was before coming to this board. It's probably my... third favorite Legendary after Suicune and Mew/Lugia. On B8 it seems to be in almost everyone's top 20.

I've never liked Arcanine much, and it always surprised me how well it was doing here. And it's still overperforming IMO. I mean seriously it's in 6th and you're complaining?
If that next character battle ever rolls around I believe I'll throw a nomination to Arcanine and Articuno...maybe Gengar even. They would probably be able to knock some fodder out.
Also, and unrelated, Chocobo is my dark horse. I bet it could make it past 2 rounds easy enough.

It's really on the board. Overall Zapdos has always been the more popular bird, and it kind of flip flops between Moltress and Articuno. Sharpedo is another pokemon that seems to get a lot of love on the board then elsewhere. Also, it's weird to see Typhlosion in over Blaziken Most of the pokemon in the top 25 are typical though.
I thought I voted that round but I never did. I was on around the time it ended too. Oops. I wouldve voted Articuno too though the thought of undefeated #1 losing to the only winless Pokemon wouldve been so tempting...

Yep, I've heard your concerns, but I don't know what exactly I could've done about that. Advertise? It's not like I can really screen the voting very accurately or anything. I knew coming in that no one would like the final list anyway, but it's just unfortunate that only about half the voters are actually regular B8ers. It's too bad that despite the effort I had to put in, just not enough users were interested enough I guess.

Very true, very true, but the format that we have used was approved by the 4 people that actually voiced an opinion at the beginning of the contest! Like I've said before, if another contest occurs, I'm sure there are plenty of changes that could be made to improve it. It's not as though we didn't have our fair share of random people voting in the previous rounds either!

Indeed, indeed. Which is why I was not sure having two long rounds in succession was a great idea, but no one voiced any contrary opinions at the start of the contest. Being that this is the first one of this style, I had to come up with the formatting from scratch, so obviously there's plenty of room for improvement! Thanks for the comments, though.
