First things first, this is the account I will be using to run this tournament. Hopefully the reason why should be easy to see. Secondly, the bracket has been made!
Alright, some notes about the bracket: 1. This is my first time ever using BracketMaker, so if something appears off, it could be that. But I think everything should look fine. 2. I seeded the players myself, trying to have as little bias as possible. If you see any major problem with a seed (not a matchup), and there is enough chatter for a change, I'll attempt to do that. 3. To determine the bracket position and matchups, I took the seeding list and randomized it inside each seed on random.org. (so I took the 1 seed list, randomized it, and then entered them in the bracket positions top to bottom). 4. I will not play around with matchups, only seeds. I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to give my, or anybody's, favorite players an easier path.
I believe predictions are enabled, so feel free to do that. The first matchup will probably be up sometime on Tuesday (July 5th), Wednesday (July 6th) at the latest. The way matches will work is a strict 24 hour voting period. No votes even a second after 24 hours will be allowed. I may make an exception if votals are really low.
One final thing I would like to say: this is a popularity contest. You will be voting for your favorite blitzer in each matchup based on whatever criteria makes them your favorite.
I hope this can be a fun tournament full of pointless banter on how awesome or not awesome blitzball and blitzball players are. I'm going to set a link over on the FFX Blitzball Board, which would hopefully get, like 1 person over here to vote consistently. Other than that one guy, it's all up to you, Board 8, to determine who the Best. Blitzball Player. Ever (in FFX) is!
My predictions are in. I tried to base all my decisions on overall usefulness from 1-99. So therefore... Winner = Nimrook That's who won on my bracket.
Naida was hard for me to seed. I know she's a popular "optimal team" choice, but I didn't know how "popular" in general she was exactly. She would be one of my first seed changes if I were to make any, but unless there are others that think her seed is too high, I'll probably keep her where she is.
It's about the BONDS you've made with the players.
p much.
I know Miyu ends up not too good at high levels, but really any goalie will work so long as you have good offense. Miyu is a cool crusader girl; gotta love that, plus on my first playthrough helped me a lot because she's good to use in low and mid-levels.
Oh man this starts tomorrow. I bet you are all stoked, just like I am.
Also, let me note right now (as well as in the "official" rules that will be posted in each topic): The time in which matches will be going up is going to be inconsistent. I cannot help this. I will shoot for something like 6pm CST every day, but I may be early, I may be later, or I may miss a day all together. I'll do my best to be consistent.
This being said, if anybody wants to be my stand-in "tally the votes and put up the new match" person, you can let me know (here or on AIM) and you can do that when I need you to.

snowpork Guru winner BlAcK_TuRtLe: http://i51.tinypic.com/2r7txtx.jpg THAAAAANKS!
Day 1 Results: (8) Jumal defeats (9) Zalitz 9-2 (12)Zamzi Ronso defeats (5) Tatts 6-5
My comments: Match 1: I was pleased when this match was randomed because both of these guys are similar. They are both easily obtainable in Luca as FAs, and both are quite good at their respective positions in the early game. How lopsided this match was surprised me, but I guess people want relief from Keepa more often than they want relief from Jassu or Botta.
Match 2: This result was probably a combination of overrating Tatts and underrating Zamzi. I figured Tatts had that "being good" advantage, along with having Invisible Shot. But at the same time, I guess I forgot to consider the mere exposure effect with Zamzi (you encounter him often and begin to develop a preference for him), as well as the "he's a big ass Ronso" effect. Tatts is also out of the way in Kilika, so he's not played as often as I assumed.
This early into the competition I think you might also figure that some folks who don't know too much about the who's-who of blitzball might just look at the "Ronso" at the end of someone's name, recall Kimahri and go with that.
I'm a bit surprised by the first match's lopsidedness as well.

I am using the pics from there, but yeah I don't know why it didn't occur to me to just link to the wiki pages. I guess I just like having a lot of creative control, but it'd definitely provide more clarity if I just stuck to the pages. Will do from now on.
I recruited the entire Ronso team once. It was an interesting experience. There was a lot of breaking tackles. Facing the Guados was annoying, yet sometimes comical.
Pending Day 2 Results: (4) Vuroja defeats (13) Balgerda 10-2 (3) Rin defeats (14) Shuu 11-1
My comments: Match 1: No surprises here, other than some people actually giving a crap about Balgerda. I guess I have my own personal bias against her, but I think this was a fair result.
Match 2: Once again, no surprises. I thought I might've underrated Shuu a bit, but nobody said anything about her. Either that means I rated her correctly, or Rin is just that powerful and people weren't experiencing any ambivalence at all.
Rin also devised that dastardly plan in FFX-2 on the Mi'ihen Highroad, and he would've gotten away with it, too, if it hadn't been for those meddling kids!

X-2 hahahahahaha

The final ought to be Nimock vs Brother, either could take the title, but I'd prefer Nimrock, as I've never let in a single goal with him as my keeper.

Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do and die.
My ideal Final Four is (was) Tatts, Nimrook, anyone but Brother, and Zazi/Kyou.
And yeah, Nimrook looks to have a pretty nice road. That's just how the randomizing came out. But to be fair, after the upper tiers of popular characters (which I would consider being Nimrook, Tidus, Wakka, Brother, Ropp), it gets a lot harder to gauge strength.
I really hate that potential Zazi/Kyou matchup, though. If I had more control (ie, felt it fair to change the bracket at all), I would've put those two in separate regions.
