Yeah, if you give in to Ocelot's torture, you get a different ending. The one you got is the canon one though.

You also gotta play Twin Snakes and rock that PeaceWalker (on PS3 if you don't got PSP) yessa. And maybe some Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 if you feelin' badass.

MGS2 gets a lot of hate but I really think it's the best in the series and an amazing game. I'm also a big fan of mind**** stories, futuristic weaponry and settings, and realistic characters like Raiden (see Tidus, I enjoy a whiny main character because not everyone is a god like snake) so I hope you enjoy it too.

MGS2 was actually the only one I had beaten before, and I wasn't sure why it was getting so much hate. Sure, you mostly don't play as Snake, but the game still has an MGS feel. I don't remember much about it story-wise, besides the fact that it gets f***ed up near the end, which is why I have to replay it.

Also, what happens in the ending you get if you do give in to torture?

im in the military, and I can assure you most are that way when they first begin. If I'm not mistaken

*spoilers*

raiden is oblivious to much of his past and basically has only had "VR" training to his knowledge, right?

That makes this mission for him his "first" or rather he's a "green horn"

So yea, being a bit whiny and nervous for first mission, especially a solo one when you've only VRd, seems perfectly ok to me. Like I said though, I may be wrong with some details.

And yes, PW is great.

If you give in to the torture, Meryl dies, and Snake flies off into space with Otacon.

Okay, that part about space isn't true, but they do make a Space Odyssey reference with the fact that their names are Hal and Dave. But it's mostly the same, except for swapping Meryl with Otacon, and Snake has an emotional moment about not being able to save her.

It's going to be part of an HD Remix Collection for PS3 along with MGS2 and 3.

Wouldn't recommend playing Peace Walker before MGS4 though.

The gameplay of MGS2 was great. The environments were variations on the same repetitive room over and over and over, and the less said about the narrative the better

The trouble for me is that I thoroughly enjoy Raiden whenever he isn't speaking with or mentally centered on Rose... but this happens rather frequently, obviously.

When he isn't talking to her or mentioning her or reflecting on the fact that she in fact exists he's a good character. But she's like the stereotypical nagging screwed-up girlfriend who "brings our bro down, man, we gotta get rid of her somehow and bring back our bro" -- she's a damn sitcom trope is what she is but we're expected to take her seriously.

I'd give it a solid (ooh, look at that pun) 9.5/10. I guess I enjoyed it more than MGS2, but I'll have to replay this one to know for sure. I've also played MGS3 a few years ago but stopped halway through. Haven't played 4 yet, but got it for free when I bought my PS3.

MGS1 and 2 are the best in the series. MGS2's Tanker mission might be the best 3ish hours (first playthrough would be about that long right? its been so long) in the MGS series, and honestly is some of the best 3 hours you'll find in gaming.

The plant portion starts off pretty well, becomes a little tedious in the middle of it, and then becoming a pretty solid mind ****. Of course, this is coming from the first time i played it back in 2001, which was when i was 15 and less critical of plot holes and lol worthy twists. But MGS2 is still a top notch game

It takes me about three hours but my play times for even 1 and 2 are regularly upwards of 25 hours because I goof around endlessly. So I'd say it's more like an hour long.
