Chrono Trigger is a near unanimous #1, with only one person voting it at #2. R/B/Y only had one person voting it below #2. MGS3 takes a hard fall, as expected. On again, off again top 25 attendee FFVI makes its return, as does FFVII after a three-week absence, narrowly edging off Portal after its loss to Mario 64 the week before.
Matches in a bit.

I agree that FFVI is underrated. What's been holding it down is that doubling it took at the hands of RBY I think, plus its having 3 losses. Happy to see CT with almost unanimous votes for first- are we setting up CT/RBY for the next rivalry week or saving that for later in the belief that these really are our strongest 2 games?
All three of FF6's losses are to games in the top 15, and two of them are to games in the top 5. Plus Super Metroid will likely enter the top 10 after today since the RE4/SMG1 loser will likely get kicked out.
This is both games' biggest test thus far. Resident Evil 4 has shown no signs of weakness (aside from almost losing to Wind Waker I guess, but then Wind Waker pulled off some funny upsets of its own later on) and is more or less a blowout king, but it doesn't have any wins over any significantly strong opponents. Meanwhile, Super Mario Galaxy has beaten at least one strong opponent, but that near-loss to Persona 4 makes you wonder.
Somehow I get the funny feeling that Super Metroid will upset A Link to the Past next week.

CT/RBY has no rivalry connection at all, besides the generic Square vs Nintendo and #1 vs #2. Tempting to put them together in Week 15, but I think it would be unnatural and go against the spirit of rivalry week.

Very true. Unfortunately...who's supposed to be a better rivalry week opponent? I tried to work out some matches for rivalry week 15:
Super Mario 64 vs. Chrono Trigger The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past vs. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time vs. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (I'd like to see if Wind Waker can pull off THIS upset!) Metal Gear Solid vs. Final Fantasy Tactics Final Fantasy VI vs. Final Fantasy VII Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty vs. Shadow of the Colossus Super Smash Bros. Brawl vs. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Super Mario Bros. 3 vs. Sonic 3 & Knuckles Super Mario World vs. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest Sonic Adventure 2 vs. Super Mario Galaxy 2 Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater vs. Resident Evil 4
Save for Final Week:
Super Mario 64 vs. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Metal Gear Solid vs. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty vs. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Super Mario Bros. 3 vs. Super Mario World Super Smash Bros. Melee vs. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
I think that's enough.

Will we have Trigger blowing out Cross in Week 15 or 30? Best rival CT has...in name. Obviously not in competition. Maybe FFVI? SNES Square RPGs, and FFVI is no slouch. CT vs FFVII would be a rematch of the 2004 Spring Contest final.

The rankings are the most agreeable I have seen it so far. Melee is ever-so-slowly creeping up in the rankings....
I'd rank most of the other games that missed the cut over FF7, though... I mean, FF7 beat Goldeneye, Diablo 2, and FF8. Meh.
I swear, FF6's job in this contest is to expose frauds, and little else, which is why it gets killed by Pokemon and Super Metroid.
And it proved that Super Metroid is not a fraud! I hope. >_> (even if SM lost to MGS2....) I'm still waiting for Final Fantasy X and Phoenix Wright: Trials & Tribulations to be exposed by actually losing. They're both great games, though, and I hope to see them win by actually doing better, not by getting lucky.
As for rivalry matches, I would love to see: -Symphony of the Night vs. Final Fantasy VII -Star Fox 64 vs. Mario Kart 64 -Battletoads vs. Umineko.... just kidding. I just want BT to win. :[ -Zelda: Wind Waker vs. Paper Mario -Final Fantasy X vs. Final Fantasy VI -MVP Baseball 2005 vs. Umineko... well, this one might be reasonable.

Actually, I figured out a legitimate justification if you wanted to do it. Missingno. broke the Noble Nine by beating Crono last year, remember? And the glitch that created Missingno. was completely fixed by GSC, so RBY really is the only one that could work for that. (The "Old Man" glitch by which most people were introduced to glitch Pokémon wasn't present in Yellow version, but there were still plenty of glitch Pokémon, including another version of Missingno.)

COD4 should crush Umineko! Well, I mean, it's such a big name game that I can't see it being that close to the bottom of the barrel.... At least Umineko has the worst RPI and worst SOS.
Edit: MVP Baseball isn't hated like Umineko. It just has no fans (which is better than being hated by almost everyone).
Where is FFVIII ranked in SoS? Because it seems like it's had a ridiculously nasty schedule. 6-5 right now with all five losses to top 25 games (#3 Super Mario 64, #17 Donkey Kong Country 2, #18 Final Fantasy IX, #21 Star Fox 64, and #25 Final Fantasy VII), responsible for giving Assassin's Creed II its first loss back in Week 8, currently in OT with 9-2 Twilight Princess and scheduled to face Mega Man 2 (10-1) next week. I'm also kind of curious as to what would happen if it faced Symphony of the Night, another 6-5 game with a ridiculous SOS.

Nice win by FFVIII there. If it wins again next week against MM2, it's probably on my ballot (and no question it gets on if it beats MM2 and MM2 beats T&T this week, because a win over T&T would probably actually get MM2 onto my ballot.)

Argh Twilight Princess would not have lost if I was there for the overtime! Oh well, I was asleep lol.
Lol Twilight Princess, Star Fox 64, and Super Mario Galaxy. Galaxy getting wrecked that badly after pulling off a narrow upset of a "classic" Mario title back in week 10 and outperforming RE4's result on Wind Waker in week 9 is just...yeah.
Mario Galaxy seems to underperform against non-Nintendo opponents (except for Kingdom Hearts I guess...and even then, imagine how weak Kingdom Hearts could possibly be), and this time it had to pay for it. That near-loss to Persona 4 was really saying.
This is also the 2nd time all contest where a match featuring two of my top 10 games did not end with my preferred game winning (the other case was Final Fantasy VI losing to A Link to the Past).
And now Super Metroid is back in the top 10! Glorious!
I just realized now that out of all the big five Mario platformers, the only ones that haven't had an embarrassing performance against outside competition are Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World, which have looked like the weakest out of the five when the games go against each other! What's going on?

Mario 64 only got 44% against Melee though. That is what's embarrassing!
I get the feeling that Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World may actually be the strongest Mario platformers, but then anti-Nintendo guys cause them to lose to other members of the "big five" that were really close in strength to start with. Of course, watch Mario World completely vomit against Pokemon.
Then it'll be Mario 3's turn. It's next two opponents are...Super Mario Sunshine and Silent Hill 2? Lol.

Well I guess that's sort of the point. SotN is receiving consideration with a similar record. I'd say that the quality of SotN's losses is probably a bit better, even though all five of FFVIII's losses are to current top 25 games and one of SotN's is to one that's only in the "also receiving votes" section (besides, SF64 will drop back to "Also receiving votes" after that loss to MMX), and for the moment, it also has better marquee wins. But in a field this crowded, I don't think there's enough room for either just yet. Looking ahead to next week, though, FFVIII has a match against MM2 that I think it actually has a decent chance of winning. If Symphony of the Night can also get through to 8-5, then yeah, it's probably worthy of consideration as well. It's got another monster opponent next week as well, DKC2. But I don't think SotN is going to win that one.
