- Snarf is basically relegated to pet status - The king is voiced by the original Lion-o - Cheetara is hawt - Sword of omens is haw...awesome - Thundercats symbol staying pretty much the same - The cats have a game involving climbing trees and bells and a swim if they lose
Things I don't like:
- No Thundera, it starts out on Third Earth - Seems more like a blah fantasy setting but with cats thrown in (though mentioning technology at least places this in the future so it will surely play a larger role as it is discovered) - Lion-o being a whiny immature brat obsessed with tech - No theme song (I'm sure there will be one, but I doubt it will be as awesome as the original)
Perhaps they could be considered descendants of the original thundercats (as it DID reference thundercats of old who beat Mumm-ra) which would make this series less of a remake and more a modernized continuation of the tale. I forgot how the original Thundercats ended actually. I remember there being something about New Thundera and other silly things like that. Everyone having the same name and look pokes a hole in this some, but it could be retconned or perhaps a cyclic approach to destiny...
I lulzed when the king mentioned that lion-o would be a great king, given the aforementioned connection between him and original Lion-o. No Panthro sucks too, though imdb says he has a VA and there are pictures of the new Panthro around (not fond of how he looks either), so yeah...totally not dead, though also probably not going to be the inventor he was ;_;
As for the plot and such, it was pretty standard stuff and had to set the stage and I felt it did a pretty good job, though felt a bit fast paced at times. The action surprised me by being pretty damn good, and definitely something the original show lacked. There will probably be numerous throwbacks to the original, and the amount of things I have seen so far shows me that they really are drawing a lot of inspiration from it in a way that I feel will please new and old fans. I certainly liked it. Sure, I have extremely nostalgic goggles for the original and understand this will not be exactly like it, but for what it is, it seems alright...

Panthro having 'died' is a pretty common plot device and most people watching would see it as such unless they just don't watch things much or know of the old panthro etc. If they reeeeeally wanted to get dark with the series I could see him as actually having died, but not for a show on cartoon network.
I do remember watching the original and thinking how Liono seemed a bit too adult given the backstory, and I admit that a coming of age story is very low hanging plot fruit; I just wish they could find a way to induce character development that isn't just 'he was a brat that learned to not be a brat'.
Ah well. Honestly, most of my quibbles are minor or things that could turn out positive in the long run. We'll see. I definitely can't complain too much about more anthropomorphic cats in cartoons...

Yeah, I doubt Panthero is dead. He's basically the techie and older wisdom bit rolled all into one. He's a bit too vital to the series as a whole to get rid of him.
I also appreciated the way the plot aligned with what we know from the old series. Grune betraying them, Jaga (almost certainly) dying (though really 'i'll buy you some time!' *Jaga gets zapped as a stone wall closes behind him...preventing pursuit...), and 'Thundera' basically blowing up and casting the group out into third earth to explore the craaaazy future world full of berbilles and amazon women and technology...

Considering Wilykat/Wilykit had the best line in the whole show (OM NOM NOM NOM NOM!!), it's kind of hard to expect much of this, clang!
Also, aren't the names wrong, clang? I know Panthro/Tigra/Cheetara/Snarf for sure weren't their real names, but because they essentially represented their species, those were their titles, which they had no problem calling each other by, clang! Weird, I know, but I'm positive that's how it worked, clang!
