Welcome! Here to introduce the signups for 80's Saturday Morning Cartoon Mafia is Brainy Smurf!
Brainy: Hello, Board 8 Mafia enthusiasts! Before signups begin Im here to enlighten you all on some unique and fascinating cartoon facts! As a Saturday Morning cartoon scholar, I can tell you the 80s were a veeeeeeeeery interesting time for toons. Smurfs anchored the Saturday morning lineup for nearly the entire decade and, naturally, I was the biggest star. In fact, it was my singular cerebral presence that made the show as beloved as it was in ... hey, wait! What are you doing?
(is violently tossed out of B8 and lands on his head, somewhere in the vicinity of CE)
Brainy: Or perhaps youd prefer someone else to enlighten you. If the doc could pay me a visit tonight, that would be swell
(cut to Ghostbusters headquarters. Janine's at her desk, filing nails)
Egon: Excuse me, Janine, may I use your desk for a few moments? I have to relay some info to the players and mine is currently covered in fungus.
Janine: (raises eyebrow) Sure, but I get two hours for lunch and someone else calls back the Cardinal regarding the church you guys trashed the other day.
Egon: (sighs) Fine, Ill get Peter to do it.
Janine: Ha, good luck with that! Now if youll excuse me theres some seriously otherworldly sushi with my name on it.
(Janine leaves. Egon sits down, shuffles some papers and adjusts his glasses, peering)
Egon: Hi everyone. Jmast, Peaf and Arti asked me to give you a few pertinent facts about this game before you sign up. Apparently they recruited me because one of them thought it would be amusing going from the Ego to the Egon, whatever that means. But I digress
(clears throat)
First off, the game is 23 players. Signups will last until we have enough players/alts and the player list will NOT be chosen at random. A few total newbies will be allowed in, so if youve never played before, dont let that stop you from signing up. In fact, this is probably a good game to give mafia a try. The info we need from you is as follows
E-mail AIM (optional) Familiarity with the flavor/Desire to play
This game will deal with any and all cartoons that aired on Saturday Morning during the 80s. Despite the age of the featured toons, I imagine a great majority of you will recognize a good deal of the characters involved.
Roles will be sent by e-mail. Once you receive it, post confirm in this topic. Game will begin next week, likely Friday, pending signups.
Peter: (enters topic)##Vote: Egon
Egon: Peter, what are you doing?
Peter: Youre scum, Egon. You took the last pack of Twinkies, didnt you? Egon: (frowns) I did nothing of the sort.
Peter: (wagging finger) You lie, just like you lied when I caught you eating the last of the Chinese. Lynch all liars!
Egon: (facepalms) Peter, you're not making sense. Why dont you go tunnel Ray instead?
Peter: Do you really think this game has all three of us in it? I dont think so, Scumgon.
Egon: (sighs) This brings me to my final point: Meta-ing anything in this introduction would be bad.
Peter: Why should we listen to anything you wait, how bad?
Egon: Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.
Peter: You mean
Egon: Exactly. A mislynch of epic proportions.
Peter: (scoffs) Only scum would try and scare town like that. Now give me back my tasty snack cakes and Ill remove the pressure.
Egon: (sighs) "Good luck, everyone, and have fun!"
1) Game was balanced by Peaf and I, then triple checked by Drak. Arti and Peaf will be co-hosts at your service, thankee-sai.
2) Dont mind people pulling double duty, but Im limiting it to a couple. Game wont start until Tuesday at the earliest though (with Friday more likely), so sign up if youre interested.
3) The flavor for this game is kind of an experiment. I have a *lot* of pre-written flavor for possible scenarios that may arise and Im going to attempt to tell a story whose outcome will be determined by the game. It might end up being cool, it might end up being really cheesy (which may be oddly appropriate anyway given the subject matter). But Im just warning everyone in advance in case it ends up being the latter. o_O
Opening flavor is rather long, but necessary to set up the story. You dont have to read it to play the game, but I do hope it will add to your enjoyment. ^_^
Anyhoo, signup ahoy!

I liked Transformers... and TMNT reruns... and I guess I watched Thundercats re-runs every now and then as a kid... Uh... Does the Simpsons count as an 80's cartoon? I remember Captain Planet but the show itself wasn't that good. I think that's it.
I'm more of a 90's cartoon guy and this was tough. I was considering taking about at least a 2 month break but if you're desperate for players I can try to put some effort into it. (That and going out on the note I did in FF7 sucked)

Yeah, this is just into the hectic range for me as well. I'll also go replace, just because I have no idea what my schedule will consist of late next week and onwards.

I should be relatively good with the flavor (all kinds of retro cartoon channels up in this *****) and I promise that this time I'll actually be able to be active because I am no longer hosting my best friend from Spain.
Active means less dumb walls of posts that everybody hates :(

E-mail: [email protected] AIM (optional) AshEthanLove Familiarity with the flavor/Desire to play Pretty familiar. There are a lot of 80's cartoons I didn't watch. But I've still seen quite a bit. Duck Tales. Alvin and the Chipmunks. Garfield and Friends. TMNT. The Real Ghostbusters. Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers. Dennis the Menace. Inspector Gadget. That's just to name a few. I've even recently seen some of these shows. Great nostalgia.
I'm more of a 90's guy, but good cartoons are still good.

Oh, a big machine with flashy lights. A big machine like that has me written all over it. Well, okay, it doesn't. But give me time... and a crayon --11th Doctor
Desire to play: I used to watch cartoons, but not many. I love playing mafia, but my familiarity with the theme might be spotty. I remember well Nickelodeon stuff like Rugrats and Doug, and the Powerpuff Girls, but beyond that I might have a hard time with flavor meta. I was never into comic cartoons and such. That's all 90's dude.
Wait, Ducktales was 80's? And so was Inspector Gadget?
Damn I always thought they were 90's cartoons for some reason. Mainly because IG was on Nick.

80s cartoons are a bit before my time, though I'm sure some were on repeat in the early 90s when I was growing up. Double duty is no problem for me if the timings work out to make it needed

I actually learned a lot from JMast about these cartoons, it was awesome. Since I'm a 90s kid, most of the stuff was stuff I'd only heard about, but never really knew anything at all about. Definitely cool stuff.
Though now that I think about it, I'm not sure if DuckTales qualifies. It's an 80's cartoon, but looking back it wasn't on Saturday Morning. Nor did Inspector Gadget (which moved to nick in 1987). Nor Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers.
And many could say that Nick was one of the contributing factors to the fall of Saturday Morning Cartoons. Although the FCC can be blamed there.

Two quick things about the flavor:
1) Remember this is Saturday Morning. Very different schedule than After-School (which might be a sequel to this game sometime).
Signups so far. If I missed anyone, just let me know. I'm traveling for the next couple days and my internet time will be sporadic. If we have enough signups by Monday, roles could go out Monday night for a Tuesday night start. Otherwise it will be Friday.
Does anyone have a preference for Tuesday or Friday? <.<
OK. Friday it is then. Will be better for Arti too. :)

On account of not being alive in the 80s, I have limited familiarity with the flavor, but given that I haven't played Mafia for quite a while, I still wanna play.
