why would anyone mention Graces - that fan translation got cancelled once the PS3 localization was announced
but as far as games that are in english goes, Another Code R had a eu release, and of course there's Disaster which according to Reggie is an awful game
No Japanese RPG has more successfully married its various components this hardware generation. It's a game that invites us to reassess an entire genre, pointing to a bold future while nodding its respect towards the past. It's a towering triumph.
The home-console JRPG has been treated shamefully poorly this generation. It is unfair that this fact may go some way in dampening the quickly-building consensus that Xenoblade Chronicles is by some way the best title that the genre has produced for years. But make no mistake; we have something special on our hands here. Not only is it easily the most exciting original IP to release on Wii, it is that brand new, quality, hardcore Nintendo title that her fans have been screaming out for since the dawn of the console. You will be exploring, collecting and side-questing for months to come. Then in years to come, once the dust has settled, Xenoblade Chronicles might just be whispered on the lips of Nintendo gamers in the same unparalleled regard as Tales of Symphonia, The World Ends With You and Chrono Trigger. Take up the Monado; its time to go and discover a whole new world. 10/10

okay this isn't a good feeling and I'm not trying to be snarky

I won't besmirch Chrono Trigger's name by including it in that sentence! though it does illustrate how far Nintendo console JRPG standards have fallen.

Yes. The VA has been quite well received in reviews. Also the website has voice clips of both the English and Japanese voices, and frankly I far prefer the English voices.
The one problem with the English voices, however, is that it isn't lip-synced. So if that bothers you, stick with the Japanese.

I really don't like the british voices. I feel like high fantasy stuff fits british voices and sci-fi fits american voices. this is more of a sci-fi game. DQ8 is fantasy and fits well with the voices -- plus those are done execptionally well. these, I dunno.
I'll play in english though because I always do that regardless. one thing you'll want to do is turn down the voices as they have a lot of in-battle banter that's not very interesting.

Personally, I don't mind it. I generally prefer listening to a language I can understand than reading subtitles, so it takes really bad audio to get me to switch. It's kind of annoying, but on the list of things that can annoy me about video games (or dubs, for that matter) it's pretty down there.
Also Theon, it's an idea that deserves making fun of. I'm sure you didn't find Star Wars unwatchable because the cast is 80% British, or the LotR films badly acted because they used an international cast.

We argued about this in another thread, but in Star Wars the British speaking people were high ranking Imperials or Jedi. Nobility, sort of. Not lightly clothed dudes with huge swords and spiky hair.
And what? LotR uses British accents for all humans, elves, and hobbits IIRC.
From what I have seen, it appears that the actors in this game change accent depending on their race in the game, acheiving the same effect using different British accents. And as I said last time, how does barely clothed dudes fit Americans more than British people? It seems like a fairly neutral point to me, so either would be acceptable.
Also, a lot of LotR's cast were American and Australian, and they tended to all speak in RP, a British but deliberately neutral accent. There are some variations, such as the orcs speaking like dockworkers, but that's getting off the point-the actors weren't all British and most used a neutral-sounding accent.
But that's enough about accents, I think. We can at least agree that it isn't going anywhere. I just don't think that sci-fi settings favour either British or American accents. It's a bit different for fantasy since most fantasy settings are Britain analogues, but for those that aren't...
I also agree about the clips being awesome. I highly recommend everybody check out the 6 videos available on the official website.
