Melatonin's the one stop shop for sleeping issues for everyone I've talked to that's had them.
Take just one pill and it pretty much resets your clock, or eases you to sleep at the very least.

Not that I'm suggesting anyone should use it as a sleep aid, or for any other reason.

Om nom melatonin

Your body produces it, but sleep cycles getting wonky can affect production. Supplementation helps address this and as shake said, helps your body revert to normal sleep habits and makes sleep come easier.

It also isn't addicting unlike how some sleep drugs can be

Just to note, you usually only need about 1.5mg or 1.0 mg, usually only half the pill or less. Most supplementations have too much.

It must be noted that 1) There's no dependence, but there possibly would be headaches or extreme grogginess upon awakening (Usually both are very short lived) 2) If you feel tired hours after you wake up, that's not the lack of sleep usually but some sort of biochemical thing, either an allergy or low blood sugar because you had too many carbs in an earlier meal.

Other options include: Magnesium (not too much or else it'll upset your stomach), avoiding caffeine in soda, tea and chocolate any time after lunch, high fat snack (not fried or with sugar/carbs), Chamomile tea.

yeah, all i can suggest is to do things that will make you extremely tired during the day. i went through a phase in college where sleeping pills didn't work- lo and behold, i was sitting in my room browsing the internet or playing video games 90% of the time I wasn't in class.

*extended* periods of physical activity or stress are what fixed it for me. make it so your body has no energy and feels heavy when it's time to sleep. going to the gym for 45 minutes isn't really going to cut it. either stay for longer or go walking or whatever. sex does count. there have been a few times when consuming certain substances has thrown my body so out of whack that i'll pass out and fix my own schedule.

warm milk doesn't work.

lol, I take melatonin and it most definitely is not the cure for insomnia. Sure it helps me fall asleep quicker, but I still have those nights where I just can't sleep.

One trick I've learned though is to read in bed before you go to sleep, and try to let your eyelids get heavy and act like you're about to doze off. For me this tends to trick my mind into thinking I'm fighting to stay awake.

Well technically you can start keeping logs of when it's ok to do so (varies a lot among people) but keeping logs is a lot harder than sticking to a general rule of thumb
