I think Cloud/Mario would be a toss-up nowadays. FFVII is only weakening with each passing year, and the two Mario Galaxies are clearly some of the most beloved games of this generation. I'd take Mario, myself.

Heck, if it gets better bracket placement this year, we could even be in for a Missingno. > Cloud result.

It's more of a general joke character hate.

I don't have much interest in seeing how far a joke character rally can go. L-Block had its time in the spotlight. I'm a lot more interested in seeing how Crono stacked up to Yoshi or Sephiroth directly than seeing if Missingno could beat them.

"Legitimate" results are more interesting to me, but I enjoy the stats and numbers part of the contest quite a bit, so that's me.

Not sure if anybody has suggested this already, but I submitted the idea of an elimination poll format. It could be for a ToC or something to throw all the division winners into. The lowest vote getter is removed from the poll, and the poll resets. Perhaps we could see some interesting vote trends as people struggle with the idea of X Character (let's call him Link) winning the contest. Plus, who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned rally?

I'd definitely pick Mario > Sephiroth these days, but even I'm unsure if I would pull the trigger on Mario > Cloud.

I guess that's understandable - I too would have enjoyed seeing Crono and Seph duke it out. I love the unpredictable nature of joke characters, though! Even the flops - like Matt the Mii - are always entertaining to watch.

I guess that idea could work if we had 16 groups of characters, with 8 characters in each group. If that's the case, then this is how each round will work:

Round 1 - 16 groups of 8 characters.
Round 2 - 16 groups of 7 characters.
Round 3 - 16 groups of 6 characters.
Round 4 - 16 groups of 5 characters.
Round 5 - 16 groups of 4 characters.
Round 6 - 16 groups of 3 characters.
Round 7 - 16 groups of 2 characters (1v1 matches).
Round 8 - 8 matches, 1v1 matches.
Round 9 - 4 matches, 1v1 matches.
Round 10 - 2 matches, 1v1 matches.
Round 11 - Final match, 1v1 match.

The first 6 rounds will be 12 hour matches and it would take 48 days to do the first 6 rounds. Round 7 is when the 24 hour matches start and that would take 16 days. Round 8 takes 8 days. Round 9 takes 4 days. Round 10 takes 2 days. And the final match would be 1 day.

That format I proposed would create a 79 day contest, which I think is probably a little too long for a contest. That format could be modified so the round 1 matches would eliminate the bottom 2 characters instead of the lowest vote getter. So round 2 would end up being 16 groups of 6 characters. That would reduce the length of the contest by 8 days. Personally, I don't like the format that I came up with.

Just simply went with "Usual Character Battle (12 hours per match) without Link". Cloud is getting noticeably weaker with each passing year and would no-doubt be heavily anti-voted during the Finals. Snake, Mario, Cloud, or (Random Joke Character) would all stand a good chance at winning the contest.

I went with a double elimination contest with either games or characters where you could fill out the losers part of the bracket out as the contest runs like how the battle contest was like. Think that would be pretty interesting to see.
