How does a book go to three printings in the first week? Is the second additional printing for international markets? That's the only reason I can think of. DC already had sales data and orders after the first day, I don't know why they'd need to go back again so quickly.

Sales data will be neat for the book, at least. Diamond Predix: #1 of August, 167,000 buys. #whatever of September, 43,000 buys.

Ease of Entry: Batman's one of the characters most of us are already familiar with and we're getting the original one here who is pretty much alike the man in the movies and the cartoons everyone's seen. On the flipside, his history isn't being totally rebooted like some of the superheroes in the "New 52" so there will probably be some references to past storylines (like the VERY EXISTENCE OF DAMIAN WAYNE) that might require reading to fully appreciate what will be happening in this book. Of course, there's nothing a short visit to Wikipedia can't address! And as I've already mentioned, this is the first time Bruce and his son Damian will actually be working as partners so it's gonna be a new adventure for both old comics readers and newbies. I'd say there might be a little difficulty for first-time readers but it could be easily overcome with a little research.

Recommendation: Although I wouldn't say that this is a must-buy title, the solid creative team and just the idea of the obsessive brooding hardass that is Bruce Wayne Batman trying to be a good dad to his smug and savage son Damian make this interesting enough to check out. Or it could just be the Batman fanboy in me.

Didn't the first printing already exceed 200,000?

And from what I understand, the 2nd printing was from a wave of last minute orders before it came out, and the third was from a large wave of orders after it came out when major shops realized how fast it was selling.

No, 200,000 total orders worldwide, including retail stores outside of the direct market. I'm just assuming that Diamond has 80% of the worldwide market; it's a shot in the dark, really, but we'll see!

Starting August 31st with the launch of Justice League #1, DC Entertainment will be relaunching their entire line of comics with 52 ongoing books at issue #1, condensing the continuity timeline and making alterations in an attempt to bring new readers into the comics book industry by making everything more accessible. Some franchises, like Batman and Green Lantern, will remain relatively unchanged, while others like Superman, Teen Titans, and even Justice League are going through minor to drastic revamps. They are also folding their Wildstorm and Vertigo characters in the DCU. Not all of these are superhero books. A major part of this relaunch is branching into other genres. From a business standpoint, the most important change starting with the single #1 released today is the beginning of the new Day-and-Date digital release of all DC Comics.

These comics will sell online at the same price as the physical copies, and will sell for $1 less starting one month after release. These comics will be released digitally at 2 P.M. on Wednesdays, and 2 P.M. on Thursdays after major holidays. The standard cost of a comics is $2.99, and will be $1.99 digital a month after release. Four of The New 52 are 28-page comics at $3.99 retail with additional pages of content. They are:

* JUSTICE LEAGUE - 24 story pages in #1 with 4 design or extra content pages. 22 story pages starting with #2 with 6 design or extra content pages. Will eventually drop to $2.99.
