Saren: A - You got most of it there. He was a villain that was just out of your reach at all times, yet you were never out of reach from his actions. Chasing Saren was a nice break from Mako riding.

Saren is ok, but not really one of my favorite villains.
From: ZFS | #100 At the end, he does get redemption, and I thought the scene was pretty well done, but I know some people view it as "too easy."
It was too easy, and kind of ruined by the following boss battle. The persuasion stuff in ME in general feels too easy for me, because it's just "pick the red/blue option to win". The new Deus Ex does this right, you have to put some actual effort into it and that makes the "social boss battles" some of the most memorable moments in RPGs.

I love Saren. Such a great antagonist during the back third or so of Mass Effect when things really heat up. Before that he isn't very memorable because things haven't come together quite yet. But when you start really piecing things together (and Saren's part in them) he's terrific.
*Spoilers*
I always make Shepard attempt to bring him back to the good side and ultimately convince him to kill himself.

any time you aren't riding in the mako is a good time

Yeah, I kinda agree. I think it's usually too easy and too clearcut how things will play out -- blue is good always, red is bad always. Deus Ex sounds like something to look into.
D. B. Banter between Uncharted characters is pretentious imhhho and one of my main problems with the series. C. I disagree that his presence was very well felt. He felt like an antagonist but not the antagonist for the most of the game to me. I'm not sure why that is exactly-- especially since it's been 2-3 years since I've played the game now. He's certainly around I guess it just doesn't really feel direct enough. It's probably the same reason I never really cared for Ocelot till MGS3. Guys who are "one step ahead" but don't actually do that much that you can directly see on the screen don't really hit home with me too well.

A for Lara based on the only game I played which is Anniversary where she's simple but she's strong and still has that right amount of femininity
D for Ken since i have no strong opinions on fighting game characters
A for Saren but i think he needed more screentime especially considering the way WRPGs are set up with the freedom you have in taking quests where you could just get lost doing all these other things and forget about the main story
he only showed up a couple of times and although he made those moments matter, they weren't quite enough!
I'm cool with behind the scenes movements. Ocelot in MGS2 is much better than Ocelot in MGS3 to me. As long as you deliver when you are on screen, you're good in my book. I liked Vayne for similar reasons, though he's much less of a central force.
Vayne's "I suppose there was no need to ask that" at his coronation in the beginning of the game had me loving his character from the get-go. Honestly, he never really let up, although I think that was his best line.

From his looks Magus is Macho Man Randy Savage as an anime zombie. The black wind howls, and one of you will snap into a Slim Jim ooh yeeeah! -sonicblastpunch
Sephiroth > Saren, just barely, for me. Both are top five gaming villains though for sure. Sephiroth's just a bit more personal and more regularly involved in a lengthier story.

10) Dante (Devil May Cry) Debut: Devil May Cry (2001)
There are no other characters in gaming like Dante. Everything about him is distinctive and unique, you can single him out of a group with no problem. The Internet erupted in a fury when Capcom revealed that his design had been altered in the new DMC. I'm not sure any other character could get that kind of response -- people were swearing off an entire game, before they knew anything else, based on a character design. It's crazy, but it's understandable. Devil May Cry isn't Devil May Cry without Dante. He's somehow more important than the games he stars in. When Capcom tried to replace him with another character in DMC4, one who looked very similar to him, fans responded so negatively that they he had to be put back in -- and gave him so many tools that he broke the balance of the game.
What makes Dante great is that he strikes the right balance between self-aware cheese and a real cool factor. Style is his defining characteristic, and there's no shortage of cutscenes involving him showing it off. Part of the fun of DMC is waiting to see what ridiculous nonsense he's going to do next. I always post these videos whenever I do writeups, but it totally sums up what I'm talking about:
Some people will watch these and think "this is dumb" -- and it absolutely is! It's all part of that Capcom Charm, though, something that is 100% Japanese, for better or worse. This is why people moan and groan at the thought of the new Dante. You gotta have that cheese and entertainment factor going on, or you're doing it wrong. It also helps that Dante's a fun character to play as, it's not just something you watch. When you take control of Dante, you can do all sorts of crazy combos that few other action games can replicate. I hear all of those moves translate over to MVC3, too -- reason enough to pick up UMVC3!
Do you like Dante? A: Yes - insert why B: No - insert why C: Don't care D: Haven't played Devil May Cry
Sully: A. Yay Sully. He's cool and a bro with class. Saren: A: He does his job but isnt really anything special, not even the best Tourian(who im sure is coming up soon). Dante:B: He's an annoying ****ot.
It's crazy, but it's understandable
No it isnt. It's been the dumbest thing thats been complained about for awhile now.

Nice catch BlAcK TuRtLe. But too bad your ass got SAAAAAAAAAAACKED.*tackles*
One thing to dislike Dante (ridiculous!), another much more disturbing thing (somehow) to say that the hipster self insert DMC5 design is not something worth complaining about!
Kakashi loses like 430 respect points there.
-- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love!
Victor goddamn Sullivan. Sully is the old school adventurer personified. If he isn't preoccupied with finding immeasurable wealth, he's talking about taking hookers to church, or hitting on the next that woman crosses his path. When he's interacting with Drake, reminiscing about past exploits or cursing whatever predicament the two have found themselves in, he's at the top of his game. He's a genuinely entertaining character in a way that almost no others are. When Sully shows up, you know good times are ahead. Uncharted hasn't delved too much into his background, into how he got to where he has and the mentor / student relationship with Drake, but it's not even necessary. He's way too likeable even without knowing where he comes from. We're supposed to find more about that stuff in Uncharted 3, and that's one of the things I'm most looking forward to about the game. Uncharted 2, top 5 game that it is, had a severe lack of Sully, and that's probably it's greatest flaw! Sully makes games better.
Do you like Victor Sullivan? A: Yes - insert why B: No - insert why C: Don't care D: Haven't played Uncharted
I'm a bit surprised - he's the top UC character so I thought he'd be higher

Donny: Are they gonna hurt us, Walter? Walter: No, Donny. These men are cowards.
This always reminds me that I need to buy DMC4 someday. I guess it's like Snake in MGS2, someone needs to replace him as the main character to show just how amazing he is.

My fingers -- ALIVE! And threatening me with -- DEATH!
Dante: A - I've only played DMC1, but everything was just so over the top in that game. It made everything, especially Dante, just ridiculous, purely to see what nonsense would happen next. Also, he had a wide assortment of moves that made him fun to control gameplay-wise, so I appreciated that too.
