i haven't put together a 'game character' list in a while, i can't remember the last time i bothered to even think about it. i've talked about games plenty, though, and doing that once again wouldn't be as interesting a read for you guys or very fun for me, so i'll do characters instead! board 8 loves ranking and talking about characters, and i don't think anyone has a real good idea of what would be on a list like this for me, so it's a win-win!
i also thought about doing a 'top 15 worst game characters' but i decided to go ahead with a shortlist of 10 without writeups instead.
1) ethan jeong (mass effect) 2) blanka (street fighter iv) 3) alexander (civilization v) 4) ashley williams (mass effect) 5) kid from tales of vesperia (tales of vesperia) 6) anatasia (shadow hearts ii) 7) vega (street fighter iv) 8) montezuma (civilization iv) 9) the mako (mass effect) 10)
i looked at this within a couple of minutes of waking of from an extremely disorienting 30-45 minute nap, saw the title then immediately moved to a list, and then thought that i was still asleep and had just woken up within my dream.
-- I'm too tired to drive anywhere, anyway, right now, do you care if I praise Black Turtle? Call me numbers.
I know most people around here aren't big Lara Croft or Tomb Raider fans. The new game seems to have won some people over, but for the most part, people view Lara as a character who's only notable for being hypersexualized, and Tomb Raider for its boring gameplay. While there's no getting around that she's really "idealized," she's still a cool character regardless. Marketing made that her selling point, but the games always put emphasis on her character. I wouldn't say that Lara is deep and interesting, but being an archaeologist with an interest in history, lost artifacts, and different cultures checks off enough good points to get my attention. In her newer games (Legend, Anniversary, Underworld), she has a sharp, witty personality that comes through in conversations with her two-man team, Zip and Alister. She can hold her own -- both the mercenaries and the environment she's up against -- but does so with her head rather than brute strength. They always portray her as being strong, but stop short of crossing that "strong woman" / "dude with boobs" line. It's a fine line that gets crossed a lot in gaming! I think that's all I have here. This felt like a bad writeup! Oh well.
Do you like Lara Croft? A: Yes - insert why B: No - insert why C: Don't know D: don't do this after each character E: do this after each character
Also, Ethan Jeong, all I can remember about that guy is his ugly face and that I didn't like him. I can't even remember who is he is now though! Also lol hatred for so many Mass Effect characters.

ONLY FIVE CAN LADDER. Sushi, kamikaze, fujiyama, nippon-ichi...
Yeah, but I think ZFS is still a Mass Effect fan in the end. He obviously just grabbed a few series and plunked their alleged worst characters into that quick list, I wouldn't dwell much. I mean honestly, if three BioWare characters are truly in someone's all-time worst characters top ten that's pretty scary!
Ethan Jeong was the worst kind of businessman.

Firstly, what is the last game you played, this will give us a good indication as to your #1 as always >_>
Secondly, yesss Lara. So good.
A - a lot of the reasons you stated. She's not a damsel but she's not a Chyna-like shemale either and like you said, a lot of games really fail to strike that balance. The Crystal Dynamics trilogy got her character spot on I thought, having not spoken all that much in games like Tomb Raider 2 (I'm not sure she talks from the end of Opera House until the tail-end of the game).
14) Ken Masters (Street Fighter) Debut: Street Fighter II
Ken is awesome. How awesome is Ken? He can literally set you on fire by punching your face. He's also an ALPHA -- rich, married, a skilled martial artist, likes cars, dislikes soap operas. If Board 8 has taught me anything, it's that you gotta flaunt that inheritance. Ken passes tha test with flying colors. I'm not sure it's so ALPHA to dye your hair blond, but he keeps his eyebrows black. This would bother some people. Ken? No chance. It makes him mysterious. How many people on the Internet have debated the reason for this? Enough said. Ken is also part American, part Japanese -- the ultimate warrior. He'll eat some soba, drink some tea, bow, and then fire bullets out of his fist accompanied by an American eagle soaring overhead. To round it all off, a Ken Boat actually exists --
Ken's cool. He wasn't the first character I picked up in SF2 (Ryu), but eventually, I had to pick the blond hair guy in the red karategi. Once I did, there was no going back -- even if they were mostly the same back then, Ken had FIRE DRAGON PUNCH -- and I played him for the better part of fifteen years in any Capcom fighting game where he was a fighter. That stopped when SFIV came out. I don't know why, but I never bothered to try to pick him up. He's not a bad character in the game either! I think his popularity stems from the fact that there's a natural inclination whenever someone chooses Ken to be flashy, to rushdown like crazy, because if you're not doing that then you're doing it wrong, win or lose. That has appeal. Also, he can flowchart like no other -- and if you can't handle the flowchart then why even bother trying at all.
Do you like Ken Masters? A: Yes - insert why B: No - insert why C: Haven't played Street Fighter D: i need another option and don't know what to put here
A - though it's more above average, as I like most SF characters. He's not among my favorites in the game, but compared to characters of other games, he would usually come out on top.

ONLY FIVE CAN LADDER. Sushi, kamikaze, fujiyama, nippon-ichi...
-Alexander isnt nearly as stupid or RNG bull**** as Montezuma -Ashley sucks yeah but shes overhated. -Yesssss at Vega hate. But after much years of searching I found a rather simple way of beating his bull**** ridden ass in WW. Pick Dhalsim and mk all day erry day

Nice catch BlAcK TuRtLe. But too bad your ass got SAAAAAAAAAAACKED.*tackles*
why is this guy on the worst list, he should be on the best! I'm with you on Alexander though.
This
Montezuma is hilarious with his 8000 catapults + axemen while the rest of the civilized world has like riflemen or infantry. He's also fun to manipulate into attacking other leaders by trading him tech.
I fondly remember invading this guy with tanks late game during a domination victory and actually losing two or three in a stack to just sheer numbers of medieval units it was pretty fantastic.
Also playing as him is great too sacrificial altars best unique building.
-- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love!
Montezuma sux. It's all fun and games until he's your equal technologically and he declares war you randomly out of nowhere. Few things worse than finding out that Montezuma is in one of your games. Isabella might be one of those of choice few!
