What's weird is that for me Sunshine > Grim Fandango would be a worse result than any of Super Metroid's losses even though I've never played GF. But Sunshine is DEFINITELY not as good as GF supposedly is in my experience.

Civ IV and SA2 are in the kind of position a game on the out wants to be in, where it can very well earn its spot, while some games on the out (probably more than a few members of Smash Trigger) don't really have that opportunity.

Oh, Starcraft, you so silly. It does have the advantage of having played a difficult schedule (although it certainly hasn't looked hot against said schedule) and having ample opportunity to prove it belongs in. I'm half-tempted to completely ignore the Uncharted 2 win due to that being during 'swirlweek', which presented a number of bizarre, low-scoring results. If I do so, then Starcraft's already middling performances takes another blow. Right now though, I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt and place it on the very, very edge of the bubble.

Holy balls 7 top 25 losses, and toss SOTN and Prime on top of that. Everyone knows Goldeneye has faced a brutal schedule, and frankly, what's been proven is that Goldeneye is not a borderline top 25 game. However, this doesn't mean that it doesn't belong in the tournament, as it does have a win over Black/White and fellow bubble team Super Smash Bros. It did struggle very badly with Uncharted 1, and had it pulled 5 fewer votes Goldeneye would be the first game looked at in Bubble Watch with a loss to a sub-100 RPI game, along with having a loss against likely fellow bubble game Earthbound. Goldeneye has some really, really high-quality performances to its name, and will have opportunities against competition more on its level. As of this moment, an absolutely brutal schedule is going to earn a vote of semi-confidence from me.

Path of Radiance is an oddball, because in the top 25 topics I've probably never said a single good thing about its resume, however in the context of making the tournament, it's almost the complete opposite. Path of Radiance is a good deal weaker than the RPI thinks it is, but it has no terrible losses that would hurt its bid like Goldeneye, Starcraft, and virtually every bubble game has. It isn't a top 25 game, maybe not even a top 50 game, but it has a good grip on a tournament bid. I'd like to see a top 50 win on its resume, but at least for now, it's on the good side of the bubble, and if it avoids a bad loss it'll be in, but it's in a vulnerable position.

Fire Emblem 7 got on my radar with that upset of FFT, and while its certainly had some stumbles, its managed to get through a difficult set of 4 opponents without looking too horrible, and like PoR lacks a terrible loss, but I'd feel a lot better if it had managed to beat Valkyria Chronicles, which is possibly a bubble game. As it is though, it's in the same boat as Path of Radiance, except it might be in a position where it simply won't be able to pick up a quality win in-conference due to competition being just a bit too high-tier for it, rather than being in a division with multiple opponents of similar strength. Of course, this means that FE7 might be one big day away from not having any bubble worries.

My god FFX and MGS3, what happened?

And what the heck is going on with MGS3? MGS2 can upset Portal and Super Metroid, while MGS3 always craps the bed against strong competition...though to be fair I guess RE4 and SMG1 at least are really really strong but FFVI? Dunno.

Ironically, I remember B8 once, somewhat recently, held a contest where SMG1 beat RE4 in R2 and lost to MGS3 in R3. This contest had both results reversed, wowzers.

Random question: Extrapolating off of SMG1/Paper Mario, Paper Mario/Super Metroid, and MGS2/Super Metroid, how much is MGS2 projected to get against Galaxy and MGS3?

...you know, we've seen three Mario/MGS matches in a row which ended with the MGS game completely folding (and two of them involved Galaxy, and two of them involved MGS2). Whatever happened in week 1 to SMG2 to get only 56% on MGS2?

I personally stopped caring about Pokemon at about the age of 12.

That's too bad, because like most ongoing series (think Harry Potter), Pokémon actually grew with its target audience!

...We really should've gotten the Gamecube games into this contest. D/P/P and B/W are pretty good about having real plots worthy of a JRPG (which Pokémon is), but Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness, now those are Pokémon games that an adult can play without shame.

...then again, they are WRPGs. Which might explain the more mature feel.

Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness, now those are Pokémon games that an adult can play without shame.

Actually we would be ashamed because of how bad Colosseum was, and how XD, while improved, removed Colosseum's best points!

That's not fixed because that wouldn't happen. Galaxy 2 beats Galaxy who beats Mario 64 who beats Mario 3 and Mario World.

But Galaxy 2 has the most embarrassing loss between those five (seriously, struggling to avoid being DOUBLED by Pokemon RBY, really? What the heck happened there? Maybe...Pokemon overperforms against Mario? Just like with the whole Mario > MGS theory, week 1 contains the only anomaly there - Galaxy doubling BW).

So I guess Pokemon overperforms against Mario, and Mario overperforms against MGS. Those three might as well be the holy trinity of big-name franchises which are largest at B8.
