Mega Man classic. Nothing else even comes close for me, but I'm very critical about game soundtracks. Half the stuff people have named I don't even consider good overall, let alone consistently good!

Days of Ruin's soundtrack is a huge departure from the rest of the series, but it is easily the best soundtrack in the series. Days of Ruin is one of the better AW games, go play it.

Pokemon pretty much buries this question.

Every single generation it has outstanding music.

I actually hate Pokémon's music, and I'm a huge Pokémon fanboy. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but there you go. It had some pretty neat tunes in the first two generations, but everything since has been really awful.

I don't really care for Pokemon's music, but I don't really care for the games either.

Mega Man and Wild Arms are certainly two that came to mind.

As a big F-Zero fan, I'm a bit skeptical about its inclusion here, though. First game really didn't have great music, so we're talking about what, 2 good games musically...? I've not played the GBA games but I usually think GBA does poorly for music and I don't think the styles of either X or GX would lend themselves to that synth.

I'd have to go with Gran Turismo, provided it's limited to actual vg tracks. It's just so damn classy, and then there's like all ten goddamn iterations of Moon Over The Castle.

Also, in regards to Pokemon music, I hate how there seems to be some broken hierarchy for it. RSE had some of the best music in the series IMO, DPP and HGSS even moreso; the only issue was that the best of it was limited to only one game (battle frontier), or was too short or minor to warrant attention (Drought music, Pokeathlon music in general). But despite this, the popularity spectrum is pretty much in full reverse. Seriously, virtually all of the original tracks in the first two generations is eclipsed by that of the later games. Hell, it's eclipsed by some of the non-main series games as well (unless people are prepared to seriously defend this /watch?v=jbXOyXaJJBc over /watch?v=hUppUBbwmgQ)

Gonna have to veto GH and RB. They very often include some totally crappy songs, before you consider your personal preferences or the fact that they aren't originals. Since those games are all about the music and you're paying by the song, it's pretty important they have strictly good music.

Surprised at the people saying Final Fantasy. The series has some great songs, but it also has a ton of filler and uninteresting stuff -- it doesn't have nearly the consistency it needs to get near this list.
